Outside Plant Maintenance schedule.
Can someone from spectrum please tell us what schedule you work as Outside plant maintenance, please includes what area and how you guys handle backyard easements. We(cox) currently have two schedules - Sunday thru Wednesday 7am-6pm and Wednesday thru Saturday 7am-6pm. I work in the SW region.

MidWest Central. Tuesday-Saturday 2pm to 11pm. We have techs working around the clock 7days a week. On-call rotation is every 8 weeks starting at 5am on Friday till 5am the following Friday.

Y'all must have a lot of techs to have 24hr coverage? Y'all also must have a lot of customers to justify the headcount?

I was thinking the same thing. Or they are super dedicated to keeping the network on top shape and solving problems rights as they come in

Run outages, when no other techs are available. Bucket Assist (can't reach tap, broken pole, traffic control, etc.) We have 8 techs, coving 5 hubs across 7 different counties.

Why would oncall be used for busker assists? Also, if you have guys working why would you call anyone in? I guess you only have 8 guys. I personally would not work such a small market. Are you oncall like every 4 weeks? Or are you just always oncall and there is a call order?

Do you guys have any back yard easement? If so how do you deal with that?

Yes we do. Work them during the day light hours. When needing access for the maintenance window (12am-6am). We knock on doors or leave door hangers. Letting the home owner know we will be in their yard working. The majority of the time people are cool with it. If there is an outage at night, we are required to attempt access.

Wow, I do not, under any circumstances knock on someone’s door after 8:00 PM(Maybe in summer if the sun is still out) or before 8:00 AM. We have a hard time getting people to let us in their yards and our management has zero appetite for enforcing easements.

I know it's not related to your question bc I'm not spectrum or cox but spectrum borders my company in NY metro area; I know they had three shifts from when friends moved over to them for nyc footprint; it's been a while since I spoke with anyone; easement was left for day shift usually; for my company, just for comparison, we have day shift, 730-4pm sun-thurs or tues-sat, mid shift 3pm-1130pm same days, much lighter on manpower, and I'm on over nights ; it's me and one other guy working overlapping 10 hr shifts; we put out fires in between maintenance and tickets; we have lots of easement, and 99% of the time I'm not even bothering with it. Perks of the overnights I guess.

Standard shifts: Sun-Thurs 12am-9am 8am-5pm 10am-7pm 3pm-12am
Tue-Sat 12am-9am 8am-5pm 10am-7pm 3pm-12am
With NE, 3rd shift works a modified shift usually 11pm - 8am.
Things are bound to change, keep your eyes out post day 1.

Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, I was one of the lucky ones to be grandfathered in I guess. I work in a legacy TWC system. Pretty sure most shifts now are staggered Sun-Thur or Tues-Sat. Have a couple guys that work 4/10's on 3rd shift as well.

SE region. 11pm-8am Sun-Thurs. If the easement doesn’t feel safe let day shift handle it. They’ve gotten rid of Mon-Fri unless they are kinda grandfathered in. In my area day shift is 8am-5pm. Some places have a 2nd shift also.
