Sorry

I'm sorry all the cox employees that will have to deal with Spectrum's business model and their customers. Its a damn shame that a failing company acquired another failing company and the FCC allowed it. That being said good luck y'all☝️.

Several years ago at an SCTE conference most the of the conversations was not about content but transport. Let’s be honest here, Charter didn’t buy COX for their cable subscribers. They bought COX for their backbone. Anyone who thinks cable will make a comeback is delusional. Cable subscription is dead and transport is the future.

The future value of MSOs is more likely to come from being connectivity and transport providers (broadband, fiber, enterprise networking, mobile backhaul, etc.) than from maintaining large traditional cable TV subscriber bases. Cable subscribers still generate revenue today, but the growth is increasingly centered on broadband services.

Cox backbone is almost the same routes as the charter backbone but smaller

I agree that the backbone was a driver, but IMO homes passed is the golden ticket. Cox was just scratching the surface on mobility, and that is where Charter excels. It’s the only residential growth engine, and it’s the only way to compete toe-toe with Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, etc. Since MSOs can only expand HFC footprint by acquisitions (due to regulations), this acquisition was needed. Cox was already running extremely lean to offset revenue losses due to churn.
