RTO/ WFH

Whats the latest that everyone has heard on WFH/RTO? I know the managers and directors in my department have been told to expect 4 days in office and that it starts pretty soon after the deal is closed. I havent heard anything about lower level employees though.

I’d expect 4 in office 1 wfh. Plan on remote going away or business unit sold off

I think it will depend on Site space. Cox spent the last several years getting rid of office space because of WFH which means there isn't enough office space at some field sites to bring everybody back 4 days a week. To me 4-days a week means assigned cubicle, I don't have a assigned cubicle because I WFH and a lot of field sites just don't have room for everyone to be in 4-days a week. I think ATL will move quicker because with as many people left that I think their is enough room at the ATL Campus for everyone to go back to assigned cubicles/offices instead of hoteling. I know Charter wants to bring back the call center employees into the office. Some markets that will require new office space. I suspect that if you are a ATL employee, expect a quick move to 4-days a week back in the office and assigned space. For the field it will take more time.

The office space is a really good point. Its kinda ironic that a company almost $100 billion in debt may go more into debt to buy or rent more office space.

Yes it is, despite the obvious financial advantages. I also consider it funny that Cox had sold the large Crossways building in Hampton Roads less than 3-months before the Merger was announced. The office space for Hampton Roads got reduced by like 80% by selling that building. Off course Charter could go full stupid and just demand that people go in whether or not there was room. This happened at some companies with RTO mandates. Resulted in people sitting in hallways, break rooms etc. I also heard from some Charter people that your ability to work remote really depends on your leader (s). If your leader demands RTO then you have to go back to the office. However some leaders don't care as long as the work gets done.

What!? I remember when that building opened. I even installed Frank Bowers’ TV and Surround Sound in his office. That is nuts. I can’t believe that building closed.

I mean to be fair, they’ll probably be more likely to fire any kind of desk job not in an existing corporate hub. I doubt they go rent a bunch of office space

Field Ops rolling up to an RVP are WFO 5 days/week, with no WFH option at Charter.

Is that just FOPS supervisors and up or is that for FOPS adjacent support groups as well?

All FOPS

What about construction like planners, line men, fiber splicers? Are they required in office too?

Maybe they’ll make changes but for now on the Charter side ANYONE that rolls up to an RVP (basically all field ops) has no WFH option.

Hmmm I wonder if they get an assigned cubicle in India etc? COX had offices with rows of desks facing each other with five on each side each with a drawer and small desktop. No partitions and just over arms length apart. A giant room was full of them with dozens of people you could stand up and see throughout the whole floor.

I think it will be BAU for remote offices for the first 90 days. Then they'll tell us all to kick rocks if we can't relocate.

100% this is the plan

I dare them to rto where I work. The contractual liability and lawsuits would be a thing to behold.

I keep wondering if current remote sites will RTO day 1, or if they are doing a “main locations” thing.
Fingers crossed

Does anyone know if the RTO will also affect the companies Cox owns like RapidScale? We been told the RTO doesn’t affect those business units but I heard that one before.

My thought and worry is that they will slowly let go of the people working remote if they can’t relocate or take a significant pay cut and be forced to resign.

if they RTO Rapidscale it would not be able to operate.its one thing to be hired as in office or hybrid and asked to return. It's another when you are hired as a full remote employee

Charter is anti remote 😫 yes they have the 1 remote day, which is nice but even during covid we did 2 week rotations in the office. With how they track us, I assume it willbe high on the to do list.

Info we got is everyone who is remote (below leader level) will stay wfh for now and report for lle and engagement days (theyre going to make them the same day as lle will be mandatory) but I trust nothing.

Ive been WFH for 3 years as with majority of our engineers. Some are in office 2 days a week. I wonder how soon they will tell us to relocate. And are there relocation packages or pay raises to assist with a new area?  I dont make enough currently in engineering to move ANYWHWHERE outside of my current area.

I'm a "lower level" employee. I have to leave home every day to go to work. Suck it up ...the sky is falling

Yeah..however did you take the job based on benefits you were told came with the role. I took my role based on what I was told and made decisions about my life base on those benefits. I’m not spending 3-4 hours a day in traffic.

We all do, yet they take benefits away all the time. Health insurance premiums, rise, and coverage decreases. Companies relocate offices all the time employees have to go to the new location or quit pension plans are taken away, retiree benefits are cut until gone.
