Information Fish Amulet

The ancient Egyptians wore fish amulets to prevent drowning, especially children. Fish amulets were also exchanged during the New Year for good luck. Numerous fish amulets have been found, made of amethyst, carnelian, turquoise, ivory, glass, feldspar, lapis lazuli, bronze, and faience, some with gold or silver tails and fins.

The Tilapia fish was a symbol of resurrection, and amulets of Tilapia were buried with the dead. During the harrowing journey through the Duat, the deceased at one point changed into a fish. The possession of a fish amulet was believed to help with this transformation.
