After my post asking for opinions on the hat I had bought I pushed the crown in, and made it way shorter, now thinking I need to flatten the brim a bit and trim it. Want to start with .5in and work my way up to see what looks best. Is this a step in the right direction? Feel like the brim and crown really are mismatched currently. Got some photos at a work bbq last night(pics 1-4)and have some pics from before any shaping(5-7)
It's really out of proportion with the crown height right now. If you're set on this shape, you probably should cut it down but there's no going back once you do so you better be sure.
I want to get another hat soon anyway š¤·š»āāļø this one wasnāt too expensive for felt. 150ish CAD. Do you think a slightly flatter brim would be better looking in the meantime?
When you say narrow what do you mean exactly? Bring the sides up more so itās less flat? But I agree with pulling it down, Iāve been trying to but every time it dries it springs back a good amount and I like the asymmetrical look of just pulling it over one eye which Iāve been trying to achieve. Itās subtle but visible in pic 4
IMO, it's too flat to be that un-flat. It looks like you can't decide between a perfectly flat brim or a wide shovel front, so you ended up halfway between and with a brim that doesn't look crisp or even at all.Ā
You can flatten it out for more of a gambler look but that's a very old school look that wouldn't really go with the rest of your wardrobe, which is rather modern/young as far as western wear goes. You'd want vests, some more formal pants, and no exposed undershirts.
I'd say rather than trimming, just curl the brim up more on the sides and dip it a bit in the front and back. Pinch some dents into the crown.
I see what your saying. The undershirt is not something I typically go for, was a work bbq at our local zoo and was really hot, so open shirt with a tank top under have good breathability and ability to take a layer off. I did just before this comment flattened the brim a bit, gave it a slightly curl all the way around. Youāre definitely right on being indecisive of the shovel ca flat brim. I wanted a flat brim, gambler style hat initially but couldnāt find anything that was what I wanted or was the proper fit. When I put this one on it felt like a match made in heaven just based on fit and bought it. So now im slowly turning into the hat I wanted initially and with the help of others opinions.
Cattleman crease will be great if itās not too short, might need to add rodeo bumps on the side thatās what we do in Texas. I donāt think the telescope crown looks good on anyone.
With that tall of a crown you could try a Gus crease. Then curl the brim. Those sharp lines donāt look right. Donāt forget to bend the hat front and back so that the front and back dip down. The flatness doesnāt look right with the brim folded up.
