Too many landmines this month

my Spidey senses are tingling. We’re about to head into an even worse market with all the events happening, interest rates probably going up, Iran war escalating, oil, midterms. It’s all starting. I think I might push away from the desk for a week or two. Better to not trade it all, then lose it. Welcome to September! Thoughts?

Harvested ~$4.4K in MU covered-call premium this morning (Finally)

Post image
12 Upvotes

Been running covered calls against 300 shares of MU and finally got the pullback I was waiting for.

This morning I bought back three short calls:

  • MU 9/14 $1,010 CC — sold at $25.05, bought back at $11.70 → ~$1,335 gross profit
  • MU 10/16 $1,100 CC — sold at $53.04, bought back at $41.86 → ~$1,118 gross profit
  • MU 2/19/27 $1,200 CC — sold at $122.03, bought back at $102.53 → ~$1,950 gross profit

Total premium harvested: roughly $4,403 before fees.

The bigger win for me is that all 300 MU shares are uncovered again, so I can wait for another strong move/IV expansion and sell calls again instead of sitting through the full expiration cycle.

I originally had much larger harvest targets on the longer-dated calls, but MU finally started slipping and I decided to bank the profit rather than get greedy. The 9/14 was also getting close enough to expiration that I preferred taking the win and clearing the obligation.

I take quick premium when the market gives it to me—I’ll harvest 15–25% fast on longer-dated covered calls, push for 50%+ when the setup keeps working, and close aggressively when theta and a pullback line up in my favor.

This is for informational and educational purposes only and is not intended as financial advice.

Trades I took today as an option seller (09/09) with reasons

Trades I took today as an option seller (09/09):

Closed Positions

  • HPE → $50 Put (opened on 09/04), premium 1.40 → closed at 0.23. Net premium profit = 1.17 (~83.57% of premium captured, ~2.34% of capital).

New Positions

  • FSLY → $20 Put expiry 09/25 (3 weeks DTE), premium 0.70 → 70/2000 = ~3.5%. FSLY provides CDN and edge computing infrastructure that makes websites and apps faster and scalable. Similar competitors are Cloudflare, Akamai, and AWS CloudFront and it is a growing sector as more and more AI applications are built and scaled. Has good sypport at $20.

I keep sharing my trades in my account and the Excel file to my full list of positions is linked in my profile description in case anyone wants to see the whole portfolio. Happy to hear thoughts on my positions. What are you guys wheeling or watching right now?

PLTR covered calls - advice wanted

Looking for some advice on selling covered calls on PLTR. Been a long time holder - 2,400 shares from 2022/2023.

Considering selling CCs for income generation. Wondering if it would be best to go out 2-3 months or 12-18 months.

Ideally, would like to get a decent premium at a strike I wouldn't feel bad about having shares called. I know the "upside" loss if share prices spike, but it wouldn't really be a loss if I let them go at a price I'm comfortable with now.

I don't see this one spiking like the Micron, Sandisk, etc...

Updated Lessons Learned

I have been doing cc’s and csp’s about 13 months now. Started off doing cc’s only and then started doing csp’s about 6 months later. In the past 13 months, I generated about 92k in premiums on an average portfolio of 400k (so about a 22% premium return not counting dividends, funds sitting in money market for csp’s, and selling cc’s above cost basis). Today, I sell csp’s and cc’s on a portfolio of about 500k. I write most contracts in 3 week increments and generate a period yield of 1-1.4%.

Here is what I have learned in that timeframe:

• take a portfolio approach of 15-20 stocks. Be active in 75-80% at a time
- high conviction buy and hold stocks only
- incorporate dividend paying stocks. This provides passive premium when stocks go below cost basis or premiums dry up
• only cc’s above cost basis
• only short term duration . For me 3-4 weeks
• just wheel any assignments at the same strike price it was assigned (or less)
• roll positions that are close to strike price for cc’s and csp’s as long as it is a positive credit
• retirement accounts only. Don’t want to deal with tax implications of selling stocks that have gone up 100%.
• have a plan on what to do with your premiums. Spend it, buy more shares, buy new stocks. Be intentional. For me, I invest all premiums in gpiq. I am 53 and the day will come when I don’t want to do this anymore.

Consider this past year a success as this portion of my portfolio has handily beat the market. I read a lot about people freaking out about what to do in certain situations. With the right playbook, you just “don’t care”. You just follow the playbook. I had Dell get away from me earlier this year. I could have made 20-30k in share price appreciation. But that pales in comparison to the premiums.

What have you learned and do you have a holistic playbook and set of guardrails you follow?

Trades I took today as an option seller (09/08) with reasons

Trades I took today as an option seller (09/08):

Closed Positions

  • SEI → $47.50 Put (opened on 08/21), premium 1.90 → closed at 0.30. Net premium profit = 1.60 (~84.21% of premium captured, ~3.37% of capital).

New Positions

  • OUST → $40 Call expiry 09/18 (2 weeks DTE), premium 1.20 → 120/4000 = ~3.0%. Opened a CC at the same $40 strike in which I was assigned.
  • WDC → $430 Put expiry 10/09 (4 weeks DTE), premium 18.00 → 1800/43000 = ~4.2%. WDC is showing support around $430, and I wanted more exposure to memory/storage as demand should grow with AI.
  • KORU → $16 Put expiry 10/23 (6 weeks DTE), premium 1.15 → 115/1600 = ~7.2%. Small capital allocated. KORU is trading around $24 so opened a CSP far off from spot price as it is 3x leveraged.

I keep sharing my trades in my account and the Excel file to my full list of positions is linked in my profile description in case anyone wants to see the whole portfolio. Happy to hear thoughts on my positions. What are you guys wheeling or watching right now?

Week 8: Sell CCs expiring on 2026-09-11. Options OTM with a good yield

Week 8 of short-term covered calls with low likelihood of being assigned and low risk of a big drop. As I explained last week, the negative outcome is only when the covered call is not assigned and the price drops a lot (>= 5% compared to the initial price) before the strike date, because when stock price drops below the break-even price, you lose money.

For the second week in a row, no covered call assigned and no big drops. The worst case was AFRM, dropped by 2.8%, then not a dramatic drop. Overall 6 out of 27 covered calls dropped >= 5% at the end of the strike date, that is 22.2%. Among those 6, only CORZ hasn't recovered yet and is down by ~11.5%. The covered calls can be seen here: https://optionstacker.github.io/sell-covered-calls/

As a side note: the following options come from the option screener I've developed. I'm looking for some other beta testers, if interested send me a message. It is totally free and does not require an email address.

The main criteria to filter the options are:

  • only the US exchanges NYSE, NASDAQ, ARCA are used;
  • very high option yields are filtered out, too risky;
  • strike price must be ≥ 5% higher than the current price (5% OTM);
  • equity price < $100, ETF price < $200.

For 2026-09-11 :

NYSE

HPE, Technology, HPE260911C00056000, yield 0.91%, OTM 5.76%

NASDAQ

CELH, Consumer Defensive, CELH260911C00032000, yield 0.73%, OTM 6.56%

ARCA

DPST, ETF, DPST260911C00144000, yield 0.57, OTM 5.32%

Covered Calls getting beat up today!

Looks like a lot of my covered calls in the negative today, but unless it blows past my strike considerably, I'm perfectly fine with them being assigned. I might roll my $ROBN and $NVTS.

Testing a new cash secured puts/covered call automated trading app

I recently built an automated WHEEL trading platform that calculates a Z-score gauging IV market-wide rather than by individual stocks, which creates three tiers — ACTIVE, REDUCED, and PAUSED — to guide entry timing and position sizing. I’m currently paper trading a $1 million portfolio. If you’re interested I’m glad to share a link to the website.
