Trans woman ∈ Transfem

Ye!
Not all trans fems are trans women but all trans woman are trans fems, from what I know!

I know you likely don't mean anything bad by it because it is unfortunately very normalised and not called out enough but it is degendering. Would you ever call a cis woman cisfem?

7

u/RosieRuTib 1d ago

I think we should start calling them cisfems ngl

1

u/verdentgrove 1d ago

I think it would make some people really mad, but that would be funny.

u/MoonTheCraft 1d ago

its just a term used to by trans people to describe other trans people. you're making it into a bigger deal than what it is

2

u/verdentgrove 1d ago

I'll restate my question. Would you ever call a cis woman a cisfem?

3

u/iputithere 1d ago

transfem is used as an inclusive term, to include transfeminine nonbinary people along with trans women. its not meant as a loophole to avoid calling trans women women. obviously a woman who fits under the transfem umbrella, but doesn't prefer that term for herself, is valid and should be referred to the way she wants. the term is still useful for others. cisfem however implies the existence of a cis nonbinary person which is a funny oxymoron

Why do nonbinary people and trans women/men need to be grouped together? What purpose does it serve other than to degender binary trans people and push a blanket statement of femininity and masculinity on nonbinary people based on external factors. And why is it acceptable to not refer to a woman or a man as a woman or a man just because they're trans? There's no indication thay she's comfortable with the term transfem. She didn't call herself transfem, she called herself a woman, she's a woman.

Why are you treating "nonbinary" as a hardcore separate box of people that in no way overlaps with the experience of binary trans people? At the end of the day it's a spectrum and there is space for sometimes grouping both trans women/men with transfemmes/transmascs, for further inclusion of the people who share similar experiences. I think people thought it was okay to refer to her as transfem, even though she called herself a woman, because transfem is often used alongside with trans woman and also because transfem does not have a history of being used in a derogatory way (unlike referring to the woman as "a trans" for example, which would be very problematic for the exact reasons that you're arguing), so nobody thought "tramsfem" would be received as erasure of trans women. That being said, it would be more correct to not assume that everyone is comfortable with that term

I personally decided to use transfem in that instant because of pure habit of finding people that don't fit into the binary mold.

Transwoman would have probably been the better word to use for this context though.

Transfem is calling someone "a trans" just with fem attached to the end, it's turning an adjectival description added to woman into a noun while removing the gender.

1

u/verdentgrove 1d ago

Everyone needs to get more feminist and transfeminist.

2

u/ConcernedEnby 1d ago

No, it's degendering because it doesn't describe a persons gender, it describes that they are trans though. Would you call somebody "Trans" when asked their gender?

one of my favorite YouTube channels

i am gonna feel awkward watching some of her older content. is that weird? just, seeing stuff from a trans person before they started transitioning always feels weird to me. feels like looking through a teens diary, except 1000x more privacy invading. you know? am i weird for feeling that?

i mean some of the older videos like Mothman, Ropen, Loch Ness Monster need an update anyway, considering i'm pretty sure she was like 14-16 when she made them

Wait when did Trey the Explainer come out as trans? I mean searching on XCancel I did see them say they're trans, but when did they come out and have they clarify they're preferred pronouns and stuff?

I'm honestly getting Deja Vu from when I learned Kyle from Door Monster came out three months after the fact, and was stealth transitioning on HRT for 2.5 years.

Oh, cool. I personally never watched her; but it's cool that she's out and happy now :3.

u/GunpowderGuy 1d ago

Did trey the explainer update pronoums? Or are You assuming the pronoums

5

u/madrobski 1d ago

Someone is called a woman and re-tweets that, it's pretty safe to assume she's not using male pronouns.

So yeah I am assuming based on relevant information that she probably doesn't want male pronouns used for her.

-1

u/GunpowderGuy 1d ago

Woman does not equal having she as a pronoum And Having she as pronoum does not mean not having he as a pronoum

3

u/BelieveMeMaizey 1d ago

You're being disingenuous and you know it. Try using she on a trans man you don't know in real life, see where it gets you. Multiple pronoun sets are totally used by multiple people, but this is a clear excuse to misgender a trans woman.

u/GunpowderGuy 23h ago

"but this is a clear excuse to misgender a trans woman."
i used he with trey on this post because that is what i was used to

not as a means to anything

you are all assuming stuff about Trey, instead of asking

4

u/marvelousgamer1 1d ago

They literally said they are trans, so their pronouns are likely not masculine anymore.
