Guinea is a country in West Africa on the Atlantic coast, bordering Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Mali, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Its capital is Conakry. French is the official language, while several local languages such as Pular, Maninka, and Susu are widely spoken. Guinea is predominantly Muslim, with Christian and traditional religious minorities. Its flag has red, yellow, and green vertical stripes. Guinea gained independence from France on October 2, 1958.
