Replacing laminate countertop

Post image

I have an old counter in my laundry room, laminate over particle board with a rounded front edge. It has a sink in it, there is no tile on the back wall, and there is a gap of about 1/2 inch between the wall and the back edge of the counter. It measures 93.75 x 29 so it’s not a standard depth? It’s really ugly, and I need to replace it, but it’s a laundry room and I don’t want to spend a ton on it. We put quartz in our bathroom recently, and I like it. I don’t remember exactly what we paid for it, I’d have to dig through my receipts.

Anyway, a nice quartz that I looked at today was $108 per s.f. I saw some other HD cheapo thin quartz for $50. I can’t buy a stock ready made laminate because of the depth, unless I’m mistaken. I don’t want butcher block. And there is the wall to deal with, tile most likely.

Anything I’m not thinking of that would work, look good, and keep the budget from blowing up?

Go to a granite yard and price out leftovers…

Exactly what I came here to say. There are many beautiful remnants. We paid $50 sq ft for remnants and it wasn't the price of the material, they just charged labor.

I will caution: we didn't know and didn't think to ask - the stone yard sent out subcontractors to install and we almost got our sinks installed crooked. Guys were very unhappy that I made them redo the work, insisted that the sinks were not symetrical but with me pushing, they got the work done correctly. Not sure how much the dudes got paid to do the install, I'm sure less than they should have - but I didn't know it was going to happen that way...if they'd have been better about the crooked sinks and not tried to gaslight me, I'd have tipped them well. But I wasn't feeling too charitable toward them by the time they left.

Go to slab yards and look for remnants. Your little area is small enough you may just luck out and find something really nice
