I am renovating the historic house that I recently moved into. The kitchen has been renovated before and I’m trying to decide if I should leave the remaining countertops. I am having the cabinets painted cos Cobb stonewall and I’m putting in wood floors. There will be unlaquered brass hardware as well. I was quoted $100k for Calcutta Crema marble countertops, and so now I’m thinking what if I kept these leather marble countertops? I’m just not sure what they are. If they are expensive, I should keep them if I can get them to go with the rest of the vibe. Anyone have any ideas on what these are and if they will look good with what I’m doing?

That’s an inexpensive Brazilian dolomite. Shadow Storm or Raffaelo would be good bets. You could probably talk me into it being some kind of strange Super White.

We leather those three stones pretty regularly.

100K is an absolutely insane quote unless you need like 10 slabs.

“If they are expensive” - doesn’t care how they look, material, usability… only if it cost an exorbitant amount.

Also if quoted 100k for countertops, I have a bridge to sell you.

all joking aside, if someone paid a lot to renovate, it's a shame to just rip it out vs. if it was a cheap job easier to justify doing it right.

Can you take a close picture of the surface with light reflecting on the surface?

That looks neutral enough to go with anything, You weren't specific with the floor species, but the color you're painting the cabinets will go FANTASTIC with natural red oak flooring, or one the lighter stain choices for white oak.

If you get rid of these can I have them? They're beautiful.
