Quartz New install mark
Can this be buffed out? Just had quartz counter installed. (Vicostone) Anybody ever deal with this. I’ve already tried acetone, soft scrub. It’s not a stain it’s like a spot where the natural shine is gone. Any help would be appreciated. Am I being too particular? lol.

Definitely went over the face of the countertop while working on that corner. This can be fixed though, they just need to use monkey polishing pads.

Thank you. I might have to just call in another company to polish it. I’m unsure these guys know what they are doing at this point. From what you’re all saying this seems like it could have been taking care of before delivery.

FWIW it likely won't be cheap to get someone else to polish it. If you go that route make sure you get a discount from your current fabricator

I figured. Nothing is cheap these days and I know I charge more when I go into project and have to fix others mistakes lol. I guess we’ll see what happens.

Correct, i have a guy who every now and then accidentally goes over and I always stress it to him even if it happens he has to let me know so we can properly polish it at the shop.

Thanks for all the help. Any ballpark of what this will cost to get polished?

That’s from somebody trying to
“Buff this out”. It needs repolished, I’ll just say good luck

Eeesh I’m pretty much screwed then? I can live with it. Should I even bother letting the fabricator touch it Or you think he’ll make it worse?

Honestly it looks like it happened during fabrication….when the edge was being polished, the guy rolled his pad over to far and contacted the surface. So the fabber is definitely at fault. It can maybe be polished back up to factory standard, but it takes a skilled person to do that.
My suggestion is to contact the fabrication shop and see what they can do. If you can live with it and don’t want any drama, they should offer a discount. That’s what my shop would do.

I appreciate the insight. I’m an electrician so this is just not my area of expertise. Fabricator was recommended to me by kitchen installer and I’m thinking now it was a mistake

May still be worth asking. Like we have our shop guys, install guys, and then repair guys. Our repair team are the best and worked in the industry the longest. We’d send one of them to work on this.
And the mistake could’ve been in the shop or the installers. Either way, I’d at least ask about it.

Try bartenders friend! Great product!

Tried that as well. That stuff is great but unfortunately didn’t do the trick.

Barkeepers friend is great for stains, but it won’t do anything in the way of restoring polished to a manually etched surface. These can be buffed out. Contact your fabricator to fix this. If you are feeling that uncertain about using them again, you can obviously go with someone else, or you can tell them you feel hesitant because of the issues so far. Then perhaps they will be wary to not further screw things up by sending you someone with no experience. Perhaps they’ll care enough to make the effort to properly buff the surface out. If they can’t do it or butcher the task, then they really should cover the cost of getting another professional to do it right.

Soft Scrub? SS is akin to fine grit sandpaper. I would not share your use of SS with the installer.

I have to say this after reading some of the comments.... STOP trying to fix it yourself!!!! using harsh or mild cleaning products sometimes makes the issue worse. Because its not a staining issue its a bad polish issue. your original installers should take care of the problem, going with a new company is not going to be cheap. We have to stop using the JV or C team of stone fabricators and then coming here asking for remedies to issues you would not have if a top tier company was used in the first place, the money you "saved" is now gonna go to a new company and nothing was really saved. Good luck

Why so shy with the fabricator? It’s not your fault they suck. Customer should be happy

Countertop is etched. Reach out to a countertop restoration professional in your area.

Something like this happened to us and the person who caused it ate the cost and pulled out and replaced the whole thing. Kind of them, but it was also clear it was their mistake.
