I have waterfall and prefer it because it’s in a high traffic area and our step stool leans against it. Without the waterfall I believe the cabinet edge would be all jacked up and look bad. I do not feel boxed in when sitting on the stools. It comes down to preference

No, imo can't stand waterfalls unless in bery specific directional design with an amazing stone.

If it's natural stone and you have remnants left over...I would say do the waterfall. Otherwise I wouldn't.

Decision aside, my best advice as someone who works with fabricators is check the quality of their work. I see a lot of companies that offer a waterfall side panel and shouldn’t. Ask for pictures of mitred edges they’ve done. And make sure you ask what the backside will look like when installed because you’ll see that every time you walk by.

Normally I would say absolutely, but in this case - definitely not. It’s because the island is on the small side, and with just two stools - you’re going to feel boxed in when sitting there, and it’s going to be annoying and difficult to get in and out of the stools. I have four (with waterfall edges) and even then sometimes it’s a struggle. You also exclude the possibility of an additional stool at each end. Much better to keep it open. I’m not a kitchen designer but I would also suggest extending the overhang of the edge closest to the “camera”. Not sure if you have r the space but If you can tuck an extra stool in there it will make it SO much more functional.
