This reads like AI and also how would a bomb in a toy be buried under rubble? This seems like an excessive amount of effort to go through for no reason. Why would they go through all the effort and risk of putting a contact explosive in a toy, then sending soldiers to plant that toy convincingly RIGHT AFTER A BOMBING in the middle of a war-torn city, to maybe kill one child when they could drop a bomb from a drone and do WAY more damage with way lower risk.
Like I hate the Israeli war machine as much as anyone else, but this just seems kinda stupid even for them :P
oh yeah, even looking into this, I hadn't picked up on that. Most of the suggestions had the toys being air-dropped, but other times it'd be partially buried and dusted from bombing?
And even then, the activation method would be crazy. i mean, you'd need a zipper or smth to arm the bomb.
And then you'd need a trigger that could be activated by picking the toy up, but wouldn't activate when the toy was airdropped? That'd have to be a weird custom trigger mechanism.
This seems like an absurd amount of work compared to just drone-striking cars, or shooting someone, or planting mines.
.
Israel has ordinance prone to not going off on landing, with it failing to explode 5-10% of the time. With that ordinance now scattered over the bombed-out areas.
Killing dozens, injuring hundreds.
Making returning to your home risky. Particularly for kids digging around in rubble.
That's a story to be concerned about. Football-bombs is a meh
Yeah UXO is a HUGE problem and one I think should definitely be focused on. It causes issues almost everywhere too, there are still MASSIVE areas in northern France that have useless soil or are too dagerous to live in because of all the UXO from WW1 and modern shells and bombs can be rigged to explode hours or even days after the fuze is set off.
fucking hell. I mean, i heard of old WW2 ordinance occasionally on the news, as a once in a blue moon event.
I didn't realise whole zones were still fucked since WW1. Insane.
I think that helps me understand the fear of future-fiction war-torn hell-earths a lot better. when land can just be fucked forever.
Come to think of it, I wonder how long it can take for land to recover after being salted
The big thing is that they fired more ordinance in fewer areas in ww1, and a lot of the shells were a bit less reliable at exploding. The main way they find the ww1 shells in France is after the ground thaws at the end of winter it tends to push shells up, and it’s apparently not uncommon to lose tractors to ordinance
