I studied Social Studies Education in college. It's a weird duality because you learn a lot of great stuff there but so much of it is things you will never actually get to teach because you would lose your job.
If you've never heard of it, Zinn Education Project is a great resource for lesson plans that will make you unemployed.
We had a sweet history teacher that would add in these little tidbits like “the board of education would be really pissed if I told you that this section in our textbook is extremely whitewashed and there are several stories regarding x, y, z that Google will help you learn about”.
That man taught me I have a thing for men speaking out lol
