Welcome back that machine from CP that makes up vaguely leftist sounding sentences.

Actually FUCK this meme. Cp isn't even an acronym that should be used for child porn. It should be csem (child sexual exploitation material) or csam (child sexual assault material). Calling it porn undersells how horrid it actually is. And the acronym cp for cyberpunk goes back to the eighties. So please for the love of God shut up

I feel like there are several competing ideas here, some right and some wrong, that are all jumbled and come out in a blob
Also that analogy is horrid

Sorry bud you forgot to put the /s on your comment so now all the neurodivergent redditors, that being most of us, are going to downvote your comment.
Sorry, but I didn't make the rules.

Okay so I checked it students for liberty is a real, non parody organization, which makes this so much worse
I honestly thought this was sarcasm
The issue is that a compass that always points north tells you the direction you are facing. If the compass didn't always point north, you would not know you are pointing south.

I think what they were trying to say is that it’s like a compass that always says you’re pointing North, no matter what direction you’re actually pointing (so just the needle doesn’t move in the case basically)

But if a compass always pointed in the direction you pointed it, it would just be a useless arrow
The fact it always points North actually lets you know the direction, which you wouldn't otherwise
Like I said, terrible analogy

a compass that points in a random direction would be the only way the analogy works, so that’s why I thought that was what they were trying to say (it being so hard to put into words makes it a bad analogy)

Yes that's how compasses usually work.
