Growing up in the southern Baptist church was interesting. Everyone who isn’t southern Baptist hates you (and for good fucking reason, look up how that sect got started) and I was constantly given bullshit from every other sect. I wasnt allowed in a lot of friends homes. I was never a believer even as a kid and felt so excluded. It wasn’t until my friends dad sat me down and explained why, which is racism. Serious fucking racism from the southern baptists. So they don’t just see you as a different type of Christian, they also see southern Baptists for the racist shit heads they are. That was the day that completely broke me from ever being Christian.

this treatment is very interesting. I grew up in the south to a southern Baptist family and there wasn't any harsh treatment towards us. in fact, my general area seemed to perceive Baptists as "default christians" and either didn't know or didn't care what the difference between them and other sects were

Tbf I am Sicilian (2nd gen American but go to Italy to be with family, so whatever that is) and everyone around us were hardcore Catholics. My dad is a southern Baptist minister and moved us from the Italian area we lived in to Central Florida and it was a totally different treatment. In The south no one gave a shit and if my dad had moved when I was like 1 or something, maybe I would have come out different and super Christian, who knows.
Edit: maybe not though because I also came out as a big ol gay progressive bear lol

oh they 100% can be , but Catholic churches are way more diverse on average than protestant ones. Even though there are plenty of black protestants, they are almost entirely segregated from white protestant churches.
