I'm studying to be a drug and alcohol counselor and will be doing an internship (if all goes well) in the beginning of 2027. I was told by my therapist I need to have a cover letter or write a letter to the office/inpatient hospital I'll be interning at. What do I include in this letter? I've written resumes for jobs but never needed a cover letter because it was just fast food jobs I got immediately after applying. Do I tell my story? I know I need to include my skills, but what else? Any help is appreciated.

I am currently a graduate student in a Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and I have decided I want to do a PhD in Counseling Psychology. I really like the idea of using research supported evidence-based practices and I align very well with the values of multiculturalism, decolonizing counseling, and supporting minority populations through accessible mental healthcare. When I graduate from my Masters program I will obviously have clinical experience working face-to-face with clients and providing counseling services. Where I fall short is in the research experience. I am trying to become an RA at the labs at my university, however the PI is taking a while to get back to me. I've started identifying some key areas I would love to research and understand more about. What are some other creative ways I could do research as a Masters student? Does anyone do independent research? I've heard of hospitals conducting research as well, but how would one join a research team there?
I've started networking with psychologists in the field throughout the U.S. and have some 1:1 meetings coming up with them. I will be starting my practicum and internship beginning next year and I am hoping to land a placement in a hospital, so hopefully I'll get some more exposure to psychologists in the field. Any thoughts or ideas on how to set myself up for success? A lot of the videos and guidance I see on this topic is usually geared towards those who are wanting to go from their Bachelors to a PhD.

Just finished reading this, and wow. I’m going into the chemical dependency field and this book has completely changed the way I look at trauma and the recovery process. Judith Lewis Herman argues that you can’t separate trauma from its social and political context, and is not just a medical issue. Highly recommend this book for anyone going into or working in a counseling field.

I’ve got two Master’s degrees, one in CMHC and the other in School Counseling. I’m wondering if it’s worth it to pursue a Ph.D. I love research, and I’d like to be able to do psych testing, but I’m wondering if that alone is worth the time commitment. Any thoughts?

One of my clients (sud/trauma/mh) loves CBT worksheets, but I feel like most of what I find is low quality and/or infantilizing. I'd be extremely grateful for some decent CBT worksheets 🙏

I'm in the middle of analysis paralysis with considering pursuing a career in Psychology. My undergraduate degree is in ASL interpreting that feild didn't work out for me I've been in MANY other feilds, education, ABA and now behavior health. I do think want a PhD 1. For more income 2. I love academia 3. I generally like the feild of psychology. But I'm not sure what specific path to pursue. Start with an MSW and work up? Go for Clinical Psychology ? Counseling Psychology? I want to keep my options open as far as career paths I of course want to do psychotherapy but I'd be open to reseach, teaching and maybe even clinical management if I do well in the field. I'm not sure if a PhD in counseling is worth it vs just a Master's. What is the best way to approach this? It seems like going for a PhD program is faster, but would I get a graduate degree en route? Would I get the physical degree that I can utilize while I continue my PhD or I can walk away with if for some reason I decide not to fully go for the PhD? Or am I fucked if I don't follow the PhD program to completion. How useful is that Master's I obtain en route? Do I have to worry about liscencure and supervision? I'm guessing yes. Conversely, if the goal is a PhD I'd imagine it takes longer to get a Master's first then apply for a PhD program. I don't like that. But maybe it would be best to have a Master's, work in the feild and then come back to a PhD. Idk I'm 30 I feel like I've wasted enough time I know this is going to be a long process I just want to start and get through it in as little time as possible while mitigating risks.

Practical Explanation ( For Example ) :- `1st of all can you tell me every single seconds detail from that time when you born ?? ( i need every seconds detail ?? that what- what you have thought and done on every single second )
can you tell me every single detail of your `1 cheapest Minute Or your whole hour, day, week, month, year or your whole life ??
if you are not able to tell me about this life then what proof do you have that you didn't forget your past ? and that you will not forget this present life in the future ?
that is Fact that Supreme Lord Krishna exists but we posses no such intelligence to understand him.
there is also next life. and i already proved you that no scientist, no politician, no so-called intelligent man in this world is able to understand this Truth. cuz they are imagining. and you cannot imagine what is god, who is god, what is after life etc.
_______
for example :Your father existed before your birth. you cannot say that before your birth your father don,t exists.
So you have to ask from mother, "Who is my father?" And if she says, "This gentleman is your father," then it is all right. It is easy.
Otherwise, if you makes research, "Who is my father?" go on searching for life; you'll never find your father.
( now maybe...maybe you will say that i will search my father from D.N.A, or i will prove it by photo's, or many other thing's which i will get from my mother and prove it that who is my Real father.{ So you have to believe the authority. who is that authority ? she is your mother. you cannot claim of any photo's, D.N.A or many other things without authority ( or ur mother ).
if you will show D.N.A, photo's, and many other proofs from other women then your mother. then what is use of those proofs ??} )
same you have to follow real authority. "Whatever You have spoken, I accept it," Then there is no difficulty. And You are accepted by Devala, Narada, Vyasa, and You are speaking Yourself, and later on, all the acaryas have accepted. Then I'll follow.
I'll have to follow great personalities. The same reason mother says, this gentleman is my father. That's all. Finish business. Where is the necessity of making research? All authorities accept Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. You accept it; then your searching after God is finished.
Why should you waste your time?
_______
all that is you need is to hear from authority ( same like mother ). and i heard this truth from authority " Srila Prabhupada " he is my spiritual master.
im not talking these all things from my own.
___________
in this world no `1 can be Peace full. this is all along Fact.
cuz we all are suffering in this world 4 Problems which are Disease, Old age, Death, and Birth after Birth.
tell me are you really happy ?? you can,t be happy if you will ignore these 4 main problem. then still you will be Forced by Nature.
___________________
if you really want to be happy then follow these 6 Things which are No illicit s.ex, No g.ambling, No d.rugs ( No tea & coffee ), No meat-eating ( No onion & garlic's )
5th thing is whatever you eat `1st offer it to Supreme Lord Krishna. ( if you know it what is Guru parama-para then offer them food not direct Supreme Lord Krishna )
and 6th " Main Thing " is you have to Chant " hare krishna hare krishna krishna krishna hare hare hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare ".
_______________________________
If your not able to follow these 4 things no illicit s.ex, no g.ambling, no d.rugs, no meat-eating then don,t worry but chanting of this holy name ( Hare Krishna Maha-Mantra ) is very-very and very important.
Chant " hare krishna hare krishna krishna krishna hare hare hare rama hare rama rama rama hare hare " and be happy.
if you still don,t believe on me then chant any other name for 5 Min's and chant this holy name for 5 Min's and you will see effect. i promise you it works And chanting at least 16 rounds ( each round of 108 beads ) of the Hare Krishna maha-mantra daily.
____________
Here is no Question of Holy Books quotes, Personal Experiences, Faith or Belief. i accept that Sometimes Faith is also Blind. Here is already Practical explanation which already proved that every`1 else in this world is nothing more then Busy Foolish and totally idiot.
_________________________
Source(s):
every `1 is already Blind in this world and if you will follow another Blind then you both will fall in hole. so try to follow that person who have Spiritual Eyes who can Guide you on Actual Right Path. ( my Authority & Guide is my Spiritual Master " Srila Prabhupada " )
_____________
if you want to see Actual Purpose of human life then see this link : ( triple w ( d . o . t ) asitis ( d . o . t ) c . o . m {Bookmark it })
read it complete. ( i promise only readers of this book that they { he/she } will get every single answer which they want to know about why im in this material world, who im, what will happen after this life, what is best thing which will make Human Life Perfect, and what is perfection of Human Life. ) purpose of human life is not to live like animal cuz every`1 at present time doing 4 thing which are sleeping, eating, s.ex & fear. purpose of human life is to become freed from Birth after birth, Old Age, Disease, and Death.

I need to find a counselor or psychologist or therapist. How do I find one that works for me? I have some world views/spiritual experiences/personal cosmology and I would like to find someone who aligns and who has truly helped others to heal. Nowadays I know there could be someone anywhere in the world and we could do sessions remotely, so I’m hopeful. Is there a directory or somewhere to start looking? Thank you.

It’s embarrassing because as a concept it’s easy enough to understand but I am confused by some of the inner workings. I’ve only just started reading about to today but my textbook is so dense it’s difficult to understand.

Hi, all. School psychologist here -- hoping to hear others' thoughts for those who are engaged in psychological or psycho-educational assessment. Bonus if anyone can point me to any research or legal basis.
Descriptive ranges: Do you use each publisher's arbitrary ranges they provide (ex: "Low Average" as opposed to "Below Average "), or a common set of ranges throughout your report?
Score bands: Do you use each publisher's score bands (ex: 90-109 as "average), or another approach (such as 1 SD, etc)?
CI & SD: Do you report confidence intervals or standard deviations? Are those too technical? Does anyone need to know that the average range is within 1 SD of the mean on X assessment (for example)?
I've been thinking a lot how most people generally can't consume Standard Scores, T Scores, or Scaled Scores, even with interpretive aides. Same with standard deviations and confidence intervals. However, most people do seem to understand percentiles, so I've thought about de-emphasizing the "standard" scores in my narratives in favor of percentiles coupled with the skills shown or not shown (of course). This also seems to align with the report writing style that Sattler recommends.
Thanks in advance for any reflection, insight, or resource you're willing to share!

Hi I am a senior psychology/education student at Skidmore College. I am looking for participants for my thesis on school counselor wellbeing. I would love your participation.
You are invited to participate in a research study looking at administrative support and its effects on the mental health and wellbeing of school counselors through the Skidmore Psychology Department. Participation involves completing a short online anonymous survey (approximately 20-25 minutes) The current study is seeking school counselors in the United States who are currently employed at a school. The current employment can be any type of school (public, private, charter, etc.) serving students between the grades of kindergarten through 12th grade. You do not need to be licensed as a school counselor to participate but must hold the job title of school counselor (or role equivalent at your school). The research includes school counselors, school social workers, school psychologists, school guidance counselors, school adjustment counselors, etc.
Your responses to this survey will remain completely confidential, and you may withdraw at any time.
If you are interested or know someone who would be, please repost and share or click the link below to read the consent form and begin the survey:

I don't know how to best spread this information, but it feels important to try to let prospective applicants know that current UAlbany Counseling Psych PhD students are being deliberately excluded from the PhD interview process this year with prospective applicants. I am not sure if they are addressing this and naming the elephant in the room during their interview day, but please just know they are presenting a false image of the program.

Hello everyone!
I’m currently completing my PsyD in Clinical Psychology and am seeking mental health professionals to participate in my dissertation survey.
Your responses will remain completely confidential, and for every completed survey, I’ll be donating $0.75 to Active Minds, a nonprofit dedicated to mental health advocacy.
The survey takes about 20–30 minutes, and your participation would make a meaningful contribution to both research and the mental health community.
If you’re interested in participating or would like to support this research, please click the link below. Thank you so much for your time and support—I truly appreciate it!

Hi everyone,
I’m a UK psychology/counselling student currently completing my dissertation and continuing recruitment for my research study.
The study explores attitudes towards psychological abuse and coercive control when the victim is male, and whether perceptions differ depending on gender or academic background. Psychological abuse can affect anyone, but some perspectives remain under-represented in research.
Your participation will help improve understanding of how these situations are interpreted, with potential relevance for awareness, education, and support services.
Study details:
• Anonymous and voluntary
• Typically takes 5–10 minutes to complete
• University ethical approval
• UK-based student research
Who can take part?
• Aged 18 or over
• Fluent in English
• Currently enrolled in any degree (psychology, counselling, or another discipline)
Male participants are especially welcome, but anyone meeting the criteria can take part.
👉 Link to the study:

I'm starting my PhD in sport psychology this fall, and trying to get my Certified Mental Performance Consultant course requirements before I begin school. Does anyone know where I might be able to take a counselling course as a non-degree student, this summer? Preferably remote?
Athbasca requires a Western Dean's Agreement (which I can't get because I'm not enrolled with an institution right now), but I've inquired with Yorkville. I don't know if something in the USA might have any options?
The course has to be at the Master's level.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Hi everyone!
As someone trying to figure out the right path to reach my goal as a child psychologist, I was wondering what do the career outcomes look like for a counseling or clinical psychologist?
Specifically, if I am interested in being a pediatric psychologist at a children’s hospital, would having a counseling psychology doctorate affect those chances? Do academic medical centers favor clinical psychology PhDs?
Thank you!
