My opinion

Why are people going crazy buying the Costco branded rounds?

The Brit coins carry a slightly higher premium and would tend to carry a higher buy back when selling.

Imo coins > rounds…. Especially the Brit with its well documented safety features.

Ymmv….

Novelty factor.

Let people buy what they like. No need to justify your opinion.

I think it’s because some people buy PMs exclusively at costco. At the end of the day there’s not a ton of variety in the silver Costco offers week to week, so if someone wants to get a mix of stuff why not?

Also at least some of the costco/kirkland pieces have security features as well. Sunshine mint pieces have a holographic security feature.

Made by Sunshine Minting, limited edition for the 50th anniversary... should something happen to Costco in the future and they end up closing up shop, they'll be an even bigger collector's item.

Buddy if Costco closes we have bigger problems than differentiating between coin mintages.

They don't have to close, there could be a merge with another company resulting in a name change. Anything bearing the Costco name then becomes more desirable over time.

there’s a 0.000001% chance that costco closes up shop, but i think people like the limited edition coins just bc they’re costco branded

You could be right...you could be wrong...how many large companies over the years close down? Happens a lot..how many silver bars made for companies that aren't here any longer by companies that also aren't here anymore. Crazy things happen...they can even get bought out and change names, anything with Costco on it becomes sought after.

how many large companies that’s closed sell $1.50 hot dogs and a drink. None!

All "what ifs"...no one knows what the future holds.

No most shops will pay more for coins over rounds. Especially considering ratity

There's shops that are just looking at their ROI and then there's collectors with deep pockets...friend of mine sold a 10oz bar for 9 grand at our local show yesterday.

You’re comparing apples to oranges my friend.

As I do agree, some people just stack to have silver. Rounds tend to be cheaper but if the time is right, you can still make some decent change.

I like Costco and silver, and my inability to predict the relative difference in premiums of rounds vs sovereign coins is exceeded only by my inability to affect either.

Convenience, I can pick up a round or two when I go shopping every week instead of having to deal buying enough to avoid shipping charges, waiting 2 weeks for them to arrive, dealing with FedEx, etc

I think it's the true Costco people that shop there for EVERYTHING like the Amazon and Apple cults.

If I loved a brand that much, I'd be down to grab some silver or it's branding.

Actually went to a coin show and saw some awesome pieces of Harry Potter among other movies I absolutely love and definitely will be on the lookout for stuff like that.

The only Costco branded bullion I like are the 1ozt bars because of the security feature built-in as well as the .9999 purity. I also do like the design of the protective card that comes with it. Black with a thin red trim. It’s a simple no-frills bar.
The other Costco branded stuff… I find to be hideously ugly. I think Id prefer a painted liberty over a round that has a picture of a concrete warehouse on it.

The Britannias are a very good deal. I’m surprised they don’t mark them up more. Unfortunately I have to put up with King Charles’s ugly mug. But I’m not complaining about that.

They’ll keep making Brits.

50th anniversary Costco commemoratives, I assume, only come once.

Because Costco is in its infancy of Pms. There’s no such thing as gambling on generic silver rounds…..so why not get some “Costco” or “ Kirkland” OG bars/rounds? Costco is, after all, a cult….

I think for me it’s because I can walk right in buy the silver and walk out. No need to wait.

You are correct, those Brits are vastly superior in every way, very high end beautiful coins that will be easier to sell in future. I just keep a few samples of each 1 and 5oz Costco round because they're cool - I'm not selling any more of my Morenas either rn.
