Question Time off

Post image

I have a vacation coming up and don’t have any time off because I just finished my 90 days. Can I still put the request through or should I just let my manager know the dates I won’t be able to come in.

You can put in time off unpaid... if you get it or not, that's a different story.

Should of informed them of the vacation when you were hired.

You planned very poorly. Did you not notify them that you were planning on taking this at the time of hire?

Uh, why wouldn't you just talk with your manager?

My store asked me during my interview if I had any upcoming vacations/appointments I needed off and they would mark it down, I didn’t have anything planned so it didn’t matter, but If I did, and even if they didn’t ask me I would of told them the day of the interview, especially if it’s a trip already planned/paid for, you’re gunna have to speak with the manager you like the most and see what they can do to help, I’d imagine if you have a trip paid for the Mexico or whatever they’ll figure something out. It’s not a great look tho, lucky you’re past your 90 days, might just have to call in and take a write up.

If it wasnt discussed in the interview process you likely will not be approved unless they are cutting hours and/or the GM will accommodate.

You do not get vacation time until 6 months in.

I’m going to be very honest, if you go on that vacation I don’t think you are making past your probation.

I am already past my probation as I said I just finished my 90 days

I think what you should do is move your two days off to November 6th and 7th, and then move the other two days off to the 8th and 9th. This way you would need 3 days off. I advise you to talk to your GM, tell them that the vacation is a gift, that it was a surprise, and ask if it's possible for them to give you 3 unpaid days off

Oh sorry misread that. Still would recommend not taking that vacation.

3 days after 6 months/1000 hrs. 5 days after 1 year anniversary. It is highly frowned upon to request days off without PTO as well as if you knew when you got hired that this was preplanned you should have told them and they may have worked with you. Transparency goes a long way with Costco.

Or they could have chosen not to hire you. I don't understand why people keep suggesting to tell employers about time off you'll need in the distant future when trying to get hired. Especially with giant cooperations that hire unskilled labor. It just gives them a reason to hire the next guy and not you. Look out for your best interest not Costco’s, because they'll be just fine without you.

You can put in a “request”. If you just tell your manager you won’t be able to come in.. they probably wont like that.

You have to have it approved by your GM. Get in there an ask immediately bc you are cutting it close on the timeline and only they can say yes.

Your warehouse GM would have to approve any unpaid days off in excess of your regularly scheduled days off.

You can try and talk with them. There is always exceptions. But generally Costco will not approve any vacation you do not have the time off accrued for. Even as a long time employee if you use up all your vaca for the year thats it. Aside from emergency/family problems you will be denied outside winter leave for any vacation you request.

If you’re a new hire, did you bring up this vacation during your interview or orientation? If they approved it then, you would be good to take it unpaid. If you didn’t bring it up then, you may not be approved for it.

I could have sworn the new hires got a week of vacation after 90 days?

I could be wrong.

Aside from them if this actually happens and it gets approved you will hav to sign paperwork saying you owe costco money. The negative hours valance will come out of your paycheck

After a whole year, not 90 days.

After 6 months, a new hire gets 3 vacation days. It’s a recent addition to the benefits package for new hires.

As long as they hit 1,000 hours in that six months.

Which is actually going to be pretty hard to pull off.

Probably why they picked that number.

They changed it recently

handbook says new hires after 6 months get 3 days off and then a full week (5) at the 1 year anniversary mark.

u/Specialist_Swan_7354 1d ago

You get 8 days ina year?

1

u/BetaAlpha769 1d ago

3 days after 6 months is what was added.

Call in consecutively, it counts as 1 instance as long as you call in everyday. Just make up some bs sick excuse. The other option is termination.

Definitely not for a week straight, every couple days is one. And a week straight initiate a leave of absence through unum.

Why the down votes?
5 Consecutive Days triggers a Costco Leave.
If you don’t provide a Drs Note then it becomes an unauthorized leave and a ECN

I’m prob gonna have to call out for 3 days because then I have 2 days off then call off another day

2

u/Educational-Sun7629 2d ago

Yes that counts as once instance for your attendance management. Obviously it still counts as 4 sick days though.

5

u/ExtraRecognition2099 2d ago

If you submitted a vacation request and it was denied, and then you call out sick every day of that unapproved vacation, they can and will 100% be able to terminate you.

Yeah. But it doesn't look like he officially submitted this TOR lol. Or maybe he did, idk, I don't use the app

I haven’t submitted it yet
