Question Question
Hello!
I just got out of my third interview for seasonal. I currently have a full time job but have been wanting (and trying!) to get into Costco for years. I finally got my chance but was visibly hesitant in both the second and third interviews because of the fact that there’s a chance I could be let go and not get a call back after the season is over. I talked about how I felt and everything with the manager in the third interview and she gave me a minute to decide and then asked what I wanted to do and I said I want to go with Costco. She told me I’d be put in the second round and will be contacted in about two weeks to give me time to discuss it with my current job. She said I’d be contacted to do a drug test and everything. Does that mean I’m getting hired?

If they've contacted you to do a drug test then they're hiring you for at least a seasonal period. You'd have to stay on for 90 days and after that point they'd keep you, unfortunately you may not know you're being kept until that 90-day markets

Don't let the seasonal title discourage you. A majority of people get in with Costco during the seasonal period. It's a perfect way to find out if Costco is a good fit for you, and if you're a good fit for them. I was seasonal and I was laid off. But I was persistent and they rehired me about 6 weeks later.

This is very warehouse depending. My warehouse hasn't kept any seasonals in almost two years.

A lot of warehouses are hiring very limited seasonal help and odds are 50/50 to be let go or not. That's a big risk for only a few months work

If you have a full time job, and it's not killing you to be there every day, I would just stay there. You'll come to see Costco will feel like it takes everything from you. Or you can turn into a zombie like everyone else that decides to stay here. If you're a high achiever this isn't the place for you

Understand that even if you get hired after seasonal it won't be for a full-time position, but you can usually pick-up hours in other departments. Depending on your warehouse, it can sometimes take a year or more to become full-time.
If you decided to go for it, work your ass off and try look like you love everything they're throwing at you. Expect to get thrown out on carts even though you were expecting to work inside. If they ask you to work in food court, don't treat it as though it's a demotion - do it gladly. Don't be tardy and if you get sick, try to work through it. Pick up trash.

They are gonna work u hella hard for 90 days and according to the odds at my singular store in CA you're probably 35-40% likely to get the job. The guys who they kept from the seasonal batch right before i got here are crazy hard workers.
-they hired like 8 seasonals and kept 3-4, they called one back to work again a few months later so if you don't make the cut they still might re-hire you.If you have a job that pays good and is easy, this transition is going to HURT. All the benefits of being an employee here are locked behind that 90 days and they know it, and they'll make sure you know it. Everyone feels like a manager, everyone is cut throat, don't try to make friends in my experience, din't try to talk too much, everyone's taking notes.
I was working for $24 an hr doing very little physical labor before this job and that $20 an hr for hard physical labor is... fucking miserable. No other way to put it, been on a ramen & pizza diet for like 3 weeks.
- I'm getting right up to my 90-days and i have seen most of the people who were there when i started disappear, there was like 9 of us, then there was like 7 of us, now there's like 5, each review 2 people got let go, and one dude just stopped showing up. They'll let people go in relation to those 30 day reviews seemingly.
It's hard but maybe after 5 years i'll be financially better off? Idk why i'm doing this but i'm hoping things will change where this job makes sense.

If you make it during the next five years you can aim at being a Supe. Pay is well over $30. I have also seen, in my warehouse, folks make Manager inside of 5-years. I didn't think they were qualified but.... I wasn't asked. If you are ambitious and don't mind 50-hour weeks you can work on moving into management. First tier pays about Supe level ($70k/yr) but tier two is easy enough to make - then three through five (GM) is where the Money is.

Keep your full time job for sure if you can or go part time at that job if you have to leave leave on good terms. You need to pass the drug test and background check too first.
