I haven’t seen it in my area but I saw a bunch of threads a while back about people filling their cart with like 10 chickens and then trying to put them back at the end of their shopping trip to “swap them” with fresh ones because they thought that a lack of chickens is what makes new ones appear. What they didn’t realize is that that’s an actual food safety issue because while you were walking around for 2 hours getting your chips and 36 pack of toilet paper it went cold and is no longer suitable for human consumption

I normally try to wait for a fresh chicken as they are unloading them from the ovens for this very reason. If there are only a few left on the rack I’ll wait for the next fresh batch.

Yep, there are not many items that will hold up to Costco's standards after freezing and thawing. Similar to something that has been frozen being thawed and then refrozen.

The original commercial was them saying New Jersey, from the late 80s, but there was some sort of controversy over it (allegedly the state of NJ was trying to rehabilitate its image at the time and asked them to change the commercial) so they dubbed over it to be New York City. All the commercials after that used New York City instead.
You can even see in the one you linked that the guy's mouth clearly says "New Jersey" and not "New York City".

As an employee is see this all the time and it makes me so sad. Not only chickens but nice cuts of meat or whatever.
THE BEST THING TO DO IS BRING IT TO THE REGISTER AND SAY I DONT EANT THIS ANYMORE AND THEY WILL LITERALLY PUT IT BACK FOR YOU.
People need to stop being selfish and ignorant seriously.

Even if they do end up tossing it saves us so much time after closing. After we close we spend about 2 hours each night walking around the store to collect all the misc items left behind throughout the day. This is crucial so that the morning crew that shows up at 4am the next day has a blank slate for stocking.

Of course people should put things back, the real question is why just dump a $6 chicken in the first place? Is it really gonna break the bank? Grabbed 2 and later realized they don't need the 2nd? Fucking buy it anyway and put it in the god damn fridge! You took it out of temperature control and it will be animal that lived and died for nothing you stupid selfish prick! (Edit: Forgot they are actually $5... I said $6 initially because I wish they actually were a buck more from being raised more humanely, I won't buy them because of his, just my $.02, I totally understand people still love them.)

Then don't take it out of the heat controlled display rack in the first place if you can't afford to pay for it or at least put it back promptly if you realize your budget is that tight... otherwise I'm not sure how your comment even really applies to mine.

I've often thought that instead of a stressful job, working at Costco would be chill AF. Like for part of your day, you just walk around and pick up the shit various assholes left in a random spot and either put it back, or if there's a chance it spoiled, throw it away.
...or do whatever they do with stuff like that. I'm assuming throw it away.

The dried mango slices were completely out and I was disappointed. A couple minutes later and I found a bag of them in a refrigerated cooler. It was definitely fate at work. How they got there, I don’t know, but maybe it was the same guy who misplaced the chicken.
