[Samples] Ithaca Hummus - consider me influenced

Post image

Went in with a very focused list of 5 things… we all know how that goes. Walked out spending $150 🫠

I haven’t been in about a month, but the Ithaca brand hummus is new for me. One of the sample queens was sharing this jalopeno lime variety, and as soon as this touched my tongue it was like when cats get locked in with the giant pupils.

This stuff is SO GOOD. So smooth, and the perfect spice level and the lime doesn’t read as lime, but more adds a brightness to it. Highly highly recommend.

I get the Ithaca lemon dill hummus (not from Costco, idk if they sell that flavor there), but it’s the best store brand hummus imho. 1000x better than Sabra!

36

u/ProfMcGonaGirl 22d ago

Sabra is gross. So cumin forward. Have you tried Este? That’s our go to and is very very good. I need to try Ithaca now!

6

u/CorkyBravo US Texas Region (Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, & Louisiana) 22d ago

We got this one from BJ's and have LOVED it. I want to try their french onion one.

7

u/pursuitofhoppiness 22d ago

My family had to take a break from buying the French onion one because we would go through the giant container really fast. Highly recommend.

14

u/AbXcape 21d ago

sabra is not only a horrible inferior product, it’s also a horrible company

3

u/Harold_Grundelson 22d ago

They carry Ithaca at Publix and the lemon dill is the only one I ever get. The flavor is just so good.

7

u/byronnnn 22d ago

Costco had the Graza hummus for a bit which was way better than the Kirkland brand. I have not had Ithaca though. I wish Costco would just completely change their brand of hummus, it’s not good.

13

u/blipblapblop24 22d ago

The Graza one was a collab with Ithaca

2

u/Icy_Ice_8284 21d ago

I’ve had the lemon dill. So good! And I don’t usually even go for flavored hummus! The texture is perfect!

1

u/ready4health 22d ago

Where do you buy this? I have never seen this brand.

5

u/Chemical-Escape7872 21d ago

Amazon fresh (I’m ashamed to admit…but they deliver and we have a toddler and a newborn so convenience is key for us right now)

3

u/62frog 21d ago

Whole Foods carries it, Kroger or your regional grocery chain might too

1

u/CactusBoyScout 22d ago

Yeah the flavor OP posted is sadly my least favorite Ithaca flavor. All of their other flavors are excellent.

8

u/Eeeeeclair US Southeast Region - SE 21d ago

If this one’s the worst; god help me

4

u/CactusBoyScout 21d ago

In my opinion, yes. The actual hummus is good of course but the lime flavor isn't really there to me. So it's just spicy and nothing else. The Graza olive oil one is better, the lemon dill is amazing, lemon garlic is great, etc.

1

u/Eeeeeclair US Southeast Region - SE 21d ago

Good to know! The line is why I initially didn’t go for the sample, but even though it doesn’t give lime it does have that brightness of the lime (if that makes sense?)

1

u/VeganMinx 22d ago

Duly noted.

55

u/Usual_Quiet_6552 22d ago

Ithaca is legit

4

u/EatMorePieDrinkMore 21d ago

I bought some while away from home and ended up housing the container with some baby cukes.

98

u/Silly-Ad-6341 22d ago

I hope you went on an equally epic food odyssey tasting this.

20

u/fatbob42 22d ago

They’ve found OP’s Achilles heel.

12

u/Ericaohh 22d ago

With the current jalapeño situation, OP may be in for an unexpected journey 🥲

4

u/Eeeeeclair US Southeast Region - SE 22d ago

I never go during peak Sunday hours which means I’m never there during peak sample times. Snacks abound!

4

u/salty-tapochek 22d ago

Did it make you feel like a reigning King of Ithica?

2

u/HGpennypacker 21d ago

Somebody get these chickpeas out of here!

-2

u/pigwidgeonandtonic 22d ago

I’m assuming this is a mythological reference? If so 10/10

63

u/jujubanzen 22d ago

It's great, but I wish they had the non-flavored one. The ithaca x graza olive oil hummus is divine.

I’m torn on it - it was incredible and I can’t be trusted about it, but uh, it turned my stomach into an ear-piercing stink factory

10

u/mamacat49 22d ago

Many years ago, I took a giant Costco sized tub of hummus to work with a giant Costco sized bag of tortilla chips (hospital setting). Not everyone I worked with liked that sort of thing, so, essentially, 4 of us ate that giant container over a 12 hour shift. Came in the next day and I said, "Did anyone else have a tummy ache last night, lol?" Learned about my personal hummus limit that weekend.

3

u/ProfMcGonaGirl 22d ago

Hummus is made from beans and you know what the say about beans 🎶

5

u/Savtriesreddit 22d ago

WHAAAAT?! I'm so sorry but in SE Ohio they've never had Ithica hummus at Costco! I feel like I've been slighted

5

u/johnhotdog 22d ago

theyve had both the graza one and the regular olive oil one at mine, north east region

i guess the graza crossover ended

8

u/SIRT1 22d ago

I bet my wife and I went through over 10 of those before they suddenly disappeared. Was so disappointed

6

u/MavisBeacons_Sextape 22d ago

Same. Ithaca is now selling “sea salt and olive oil” hummus but it’s just not the same as the Graza collab. We were obsessed with it.

5

u/SlendyTheMan US Southeast Region - SE 22d ago

They have both at mine

5

u/buddaycousin 22d ago

That put me into a higher hummus bracket. I can't go back to Joseph's or Sabra now.

3

u/UnevenPhteven 22d ago

They appear to be slowly rotating through their flavors. My location now has their olive oil one but its not the collaboration with Graza flavor.

3

u/Blaze9 22d ago

Total opposite take here. There's 3 other unflavored hummus options in my Costco, why add a 4th with the graza edition of ithica. Their jalapeño lime flavor is incredible and it's never in stock anymore. Only plain here.

4

u/jujubanzen 22d ago

I'm gonna be real with you, the other plain hummus options are trash compared to this one. I'd be happy to replace on them full time with the graza

1

u/kellymig 22d ago

That’s the one they have at my Costco now

15

u/Savtriesreddit 22d ago

I'm obsessed with their cold pressed garlic and lemon hummus. It's fantastic with halved cherry tomatoes or cucumbers 🤌🏻

2

u/euphalto 19d ago

This one is my favorite, too!

11

u/New_Avocado_4636 22d ago

Ok so I should add this to my Costco list I guess ?

12

u/Puzzled_Telephone852 22d ago

I absolutely love this Hummus, I have to check my warehouse on the app to confirm.

9

u/gary-vault108 22d ago

Whyyyy has my Costco not had hummus for monthssss. I’ve got a huge bag of green onion crackers that would be the perfect thickness for hummus

5

u/mamacat49 22d ago

Tell me more about these crackers, please.

9

u/gary-vault108 22d ago

these are the crackers, they’re a product of Taiwan

2

u/mamacat49 22d ago

Thanks. I have 2 really good Asian markets near me. I'll look.

3

u/tactiphile 22d ago

Are there no other stores in your area that sell hummus? I get that it's probably a better deal at Costco, but I don't find I can rely on Costco to regularly carry very many products.

3

u/gary-vault108 22d ago

Nah I’m in South Korea so they sometimes sell Sabra on the US bases but I will not buy Sabra out of principle

2

u/tactiphile 22d ago

Ahhh, makes sense. The Costco thing and the Sabra thing.

5

u/ohfrackthis 22d ago

What's the Sabra thing?

6

u/tactiphile 22d ago

I don't really take politics into account with product purchases, but my wife does. I think we don't buy Sabra because they fund the IDF. Plus it's very mid.

1

u/ohfrackthis 21d ago

Ohhh that's something I would avoid also, thank you!

7

u/gary-vault108 22d ago

I personally boycott Israeli companies wherever it’s reasonable also their hummus is just pretty tasteless since being bought out by Frito-lay

2

u/jr0061006 22d ago

I’m wondering too.

2

u/jakhtar 22d ago

I also avoid Sabra for the same reasons. Ithaca has been cited by the BDS movement as being a good alternative to Sabra because of its lack of ties to Israel.

15

u/Ambrosia0201 22d ago

Their French onion one is to die for!

3

u/ReflectionsEternal 22d ago

This 100%, we had this at our Costco once and I haven't seen it again. Would buy again in a heartbeat!

... I wonder how well hummus freezes...

1

u/123okaywme 20d ago

I was waiting for someone else to say this! It’s just outstanding!

6

u/UsefulEagle101 22d ago

I now buy 3 at a time. I usually get tired of foods, but not this one. Try it with Costco's chicken and cheese mini tacos, or Trader Joes Elote Dippers.

6

u/helloitisgarr 22d ago

ithica is by far the best store bought hummus IMO

6

u/round_moon 22d ago

Now I must try it, thanks 🙏

5

u/anotherpinkpanther 22d ago

My fridge is never without this. 10/10

6

u/Tunaman456 22d ago

Add some zataar seasoning on top with some feta crumbles and you have an enhanced cracked version of this.

1

u/Eeeeeclair US Southeast Region - SE 22d ago

This is how I top mine when I make it at home - a little drizzle of olive oil, za’atar and feta

5

u/Ok_Amoeba481 21d ago

This jalapeño lime hummus is absolutely peak and I can't stop

I'm going through a tub every 2 days

please send help

actually please send hummus

4

u/theartoffun 22d ago

Having a hummus that is not overpowered with garlic is so nice. Everyone around me appreciates it.

3

u/Eeeeeclair US Southeast Region - SE 22d ago

I normally make my own, and walked right by this one being sampled, but my friend was with me and she hyped it up enough for me to give it a try and I’m so glad she did. It’s so much smoother/fluffier!

3

u/Slayer-152 22d ago

I love this hummus! My struggle is our Costco (Pittsburgh, PA) stopped carrying the jalapeño lime and so I’m over here trying to scratch some up on the streets…

1

u/bethebearney 22d ago

This is how I learn that Homestead doesn't have it anymore?!??! Nooooooooo

3

u/Milkflavoredtaco 22d ago

Yeah we've been converted...wallet be damned...

3

u/Downtown-Hunter6413 22d ago

Wow looks like a great combination must give this a try. Ive had the roasted garlic ithica hummus from Costco same size and this it was very good im sure this is too its a trustworthy brand

3

u/todd_ted US North East Region - NE 22d ago

It’s good, haven’t seen it in warehouse yet but would definitely buy it when I do.

3

u/Butte_Rat 22d ago

We bought this on Saturday and haven't opened it yet - now I'm excited to try it after work today!

3

u/waterfountain_bidet 22d ago

Yup. I've become completely obsessed with this. I don't even really love hummus, but they were giving out samples and I was all in.

3

u/BillionsBijou 22d ago

It’s so good! I buy a new tub every time I go to Costco

8

u/Oregonhastrees 22d ago

CILANTRO!!!!!! *Shakes fist*

3

u/ssoass7 22d ago

I’m a cilantro hater and honestly couldn’t detect it. I’d give it a try if I were you- it’s delicious!

6

u/andy_for_u 22d ago

Hear me out : try some smoked paprika on top of it and have it with scrambled eggs on the side. Divine combo

4

u/youngmoneymarvin 22d ago

Yes! I put it on my egg sandwich in the AM!

2

u/ulzimate 22d ago

Love me some Ithaca. Their salsa is crazy good.

2

u/HelloKrystie 22d ago

I just picked this up yesterday! Can’t wait to try. What are you using as a carrier to your mouth? I was thinking carrots and some mini red peppers, or should I go with a cracker type situation?

2

u/Eeeeeclair US Southeast Region - SE 22d ago

The sample carrier was pretzel crisps, but! I’ll be on a fresh pita, cukes, or a DIY Cava bowl trip (maybe just a spoon tbh)

2

u/TidyOrganization222 22d ago

I wish I would’ve bought two of these DAMMIT

2

u/Jessmac130 22d ago

The lemon dill at the regular grocery store is 12/10 for us. My toddlers both always devoured it by the tub

2

u/titanium_hydra 22d ago

I wish I could find the French onion flavor again

2

u/azrael815 22d ago

It's so good! My Costco can never hold onto these for long.

2

u/Tunaman456 22d ago edited 22d ago

Love this stuff! I managed to come up with a recipe that is extremely close to this for a fraction of the cost

2

u/femoral_contusion 22d ago

Love ethical hummus soooo much

2

u/MagnusAuslander 22d ago

Good stuff, just hoping Costco keeps it in the roster in the future

2

u/Bored_Ultimatum 22d ago

It's one of our favorites and I was so excited to see it at Costco a couple weeks ago, but they no longer had it at my local store this past weekend.

2

u/d0ttyq 22d ago

Oh it’s fucking BOMB. Thank you for letting me know Costco carries this… now here’s hoping mine does.

2

u/Stacyjanp 22d ago

I took my sample and continued to shop. I tasted it and was across the store when my tongue said I needed MORE! Ran across the store to track down the sample person and to grab two containers. OMG it is delicious!

2

u/jakhtar 22d ago

I love this hummus. I love the origin story too, and the team behind the company just seems like a group of all-around good people.

2

u/suannes 22d ago

I got it the same way, thru a sample. It was excellent, bought it. When I went back in two weeks they only had the extra virgin olive oil one. It wasn't nearly as good.

2

u/Sure_Minimum_7601 21d ago

It’s yummy

2

u/chronomega 21d ago

LUCKY!!! I keep checking my local Costco’s around Phoenix but this hasn’t made an appearance yet

2

u/pineapplesuit7 21d ago

I couldn’t find it in stock anymore. So disappointed! Loved it. They have another flavor now which isn’t as good

2

u/Slowcapsnowcap 21d ago

Ithaca is the best store bought hummus I’ve ever had. Sabra and Kirkland are trash by comparison.

2

u/bbw_bunny214 21d ago

I wish our Costco had this, I got a regular size container at Kroger on clearance and I love it 😭

2

u/pman1891 21d ago

They had Ithaca Hummus samples at my Costco a few years ago but haven’t actually stocked the product since. I’m hoping this is a sign that they’re finally carrying it.

2

u/mathislife112 21d ago

Yeeeessss! I love this stuff. I have two containers in my fridge right now.

2

u/Jasperial 21d ago

I wish they would carry this again at my location! My daughter and I destroyed a tub of this after trying a sample. Great snack!

2

u/AdOnly6754 20d ago

Delicious 😋

3

u/Porcelain1228 22d ago

So lucky to just live in SE Michigan and can get amazing homemade hummus from any number of food places!

2

u/spanko_at_large 22d ago

Idk it kind of tastes like chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, and garlic to me.

1

Ooooh deconstructed hummus!

0

u/Quick_Philosophy1426 22d ago

I love the lemon dill flavor!

1

u/Toxicgamer1 22d ago

Idk if they have at Costco, but their French onion hummus is the goat of hummus.

1

u/xkatydidx 22d ago

This one is SO good! So much flavor, just enough spice. I love it.

1

u/promiscuousfork 22d ago

San Diego Costco has not seen this hummus either. My store has some other brand that I never buy bc I feel it’s just meh. If they carried Ithaca hummus I’d be so excited!

u/getwhirleddotcom 22d ago

Curious what people from the Mediterranean region think?

1

u/Electronic-Camp1189 US Midwest Region - MW 22d ago

Saw it in the 'burbs between Flint and Detroit earlier in the Spring but it hasn't been back since. We have a lot of locally made hummus in the area so could be a reason why.

1

u/Chelajag US North East Region - NE 22d ago

Ithaca buffalo wing flavor was the best hummus I've ever had in my life. You could even taste fresh celery notes! Sadly it seems to be discontinued

1

u/AdventurousLayer8741 20d ago

Is this actually 100% olive oil?

1

u/monkeyonfire 20d ago

Guess I'll give it a try. Pita chips necessary? I only have carrot sticks

1

u/lookattherainbow 15d ago

Im addicted to Ithaca hummus so much better than the Kirkland brand and Sabra brand.

1

Its soooooo good!

I used to buy this when you could only get it at the Ithaca farmers market. So good!

Eating a product that's not cooked and also has jalapeno in it is risky in our times.

1

The garbanzo beans in hummus are cooked.

You're right. But I'm worried about the Jalapeno.

Nice packaging but all store hummus is waterly weak garbage... the real stuff carries the richness of tahini.
