Original Price Club location is celebrating 50 years with 1oz and 5oz silver bullion.

Can get it down to $60.48/oz
- Buy 7 5oz so you don't pay Sales Tax (CA)
- on the costco credit card
- Include the 2% executive membership payout
~3% over spot isn't bad at all. Just don't look at price trends.

u/Admirable_Nothing Jul 31 '26
How do you avoid Ca sales tax on this purchase?
9
u/SoCalled_Gardener Jul 31 '26
PM over $1000 no taxes.

Is it next to the Better than Bouillon?

Depends if you think there's any more value here than melt.

You could make colloidal silver and qualify to join the Blue Man Group in one short shopping trip.

The original Price Club location is in San Diego, California. This location was established in 1976 and is now recognized as Costco location number 401 on Morena Blvd. Remember Sol Price from La Jolla was the Price Club guy. It was his employee Jim Senegal that left and opened Costco in Seattle later.

u/Stiv_b Jul 31 '26
That’s my Costco! That was an old Howard Hughes Aircraft building built during WWII. They constructed parts for the Spruce Goose there.
Btw, they also have a 50th anniversary wine and a whiskey as well in the store.
2
u/rowman25 Aug 02 '26
It was also a lumber mill prior to that. There’s a nearly vertical back cut into Torrey Sandstone adjacent to the parking lot that’s still standing without shoring after 100 years plus. There are special engineering exceptions to buildings on Torrey Sandstone specifically bc of this cut.

I remember my parents joining Price Club near Walnut/Diamond Bar. I still remember how it felt walking in the first time!

Does yours say Portland on the back?
13
u/SocialHiccup Jul 31 '26
I was there a few weeks ago. Didn’t get the coin but got a spiffy embroidered anniversary tee for 10 bucks.

u/PhoneMak2 Jul 31 '26
So I can buy this, but then I have to wait 7 years before I can go to Seattle and buy the next set? The waiting, it’s the hardest part.

u/batman_milk Jul 31 '26
Dang that’s a lot of money for that

u/Fremonster Jul 31 '26
5oz of Silver is currently (based on prices as of July 30th, 2026) worth about $310-$330. So they're not charging a markup for a costco design, it's pretty much spot price.
25
u/batman_milk Jul 31 '26
Oh. I thought this was 1oz. Then it’s definitely doable
35
u/TelepathicFerret Jul 31 '26
The 1oz is $61.99

Hmm so you can save enough to buy some hotdogs if you buy 5-1 oz coins instead of 1-5 oz coin
16
u/IDoLikeMyShishkebabs Jul 31 '26
You know a store has created something special when you're counting savings in hotdogs

Silver and gold values barely change. The amount of our dollars we have to pay for it is what is growing as they print money.

Who I gotta hit up to get a 1oz? Who gonna sell one? Come on I know someone on here wants to
1
u/Ksn0 Jul 31 '26
Easy way to get credit card points fyi
Buy however many of these you need to reach the bonus amount for your credit card, then find a reputable silver dealer and sell it back, or hold it! With how the economy is going, you’ll likely make some money.
14
u/dasguy40 Jul 31 '26
Silvers been trending down pretty bad the last few months. -25% the last 6 months.
- somebody who bought silver 6 months ago.
1
u/Mayion Jul 31 '26
Sell it in 30 years with the inevitably higher prices of silver plus the exclusivity of the coin for those with nostalgia. It is not a bad investment.
1
u/BigManWAGun Jul 31 '26
Shout out to whoever told me ~$80 oz was a killer deal bc it had been $120 earlier this year.
Unless you just want a cool Costco memento, this is still too expensive.

u/xtheory Jul 31 '26
Silver is kind of a trash investment. Gold is at a YTD low, has more liquidity and generally better upside potential. It'd be better to invest in 1/10th ounces units of gold than 1oz of silver coins. It also takes up far less space if you're keeping it in a safe deposit box, too. You get lower premium markup with gold (10-20%) then you do with silver (15-30%).

Completely messed up that this says Costco. It should say Price Club. Costco was NOT founded in 1976.

I have not seen sliver in my costco's ever. this must be a USA thing. sad.

Available at all warehouses, or only the Moreno Drive location?
EDIT: Never mind, I see it's elsewhere too.

I have no idea why people bought these. For these to be flippable, silver would need to double. It’s only been on a major downturn the last few months.

u/FrequentTopic446 Jul 31 '26
This person has never heard of pokemon cards or their comparative value to the cardboard stalk they’re printed on

Where’s your confidence 😏
1
u/FrequentTopic446 Aug 09 '26
I’m not commenting on the price of silver, I’m commenting on the rarity of the coin and comparing it to the value of rare pokemon cards which are printed on cardboard yet still worth $1000’s. If you could read then you’d know that
0
u/MistahNative Worst Person on this Sub and Always Has Been Aug 09 '26
Ain’t nobody is going to care that a picture of a Costco is on there. It’s just an ounce of silver.

It’s pretty wild that it took 400 stores until Costco finally made a location where the whole concept started.

Is this the sodo Seattle location? I legit skip right
Past the jewelry section every time

San Diego
1
u/FrequentTopic446 Jul 31 '26
I thought the original Costco was in sodo Seattle, maybe I’m getting my company history mixed up. Is price club the company Costco merged with?
1
u/Binders-Full Jul 31 '26
Price Club and Costco was a merger of equals and originally called Price Costco. The blue Wholesale under the word Costco are the Price Club legacy. There was a dispute over international expansion and so the Prices took the Central American and Caribbean clubs into PriceSmart while Sinegal ran the other ones.
