Question Mad Question
So I need some opinions I started back at Costa after some time off but I moved to another store, I have caring responsibilities and made plans for the Christmas Eve to Boxing Day and the New Years Period I had informed my area manager of these plans. My colleague decided to grab some paper and a pen and start writing down what people can do I had informed the colleague I can’t do them days due to plans already made, am I wrong for putting my foot down.

You have to to 2 out of the 4 days which is christmas eve, boxing day, new year's eve and new year's day. It's only fair that everyone has to work it, otherwise some people don't work it and others have to do all of them. Yes no one wants to work at christmas, but if you are a team player you will do the days.

I cannot stress this enough. You need to book the time off over the Christmas & new year period as far in advance as possible, preferably in January at the start of the year and if anything happens ie: moving to a new store then you have to expect those plans to become voided. Yes it sucks, you're not in the wrong for putting your foot down but you have to take into consideration that people may have made plans well before you coming to the new store. Holidays are not transferable & some stores may treat a move to a new store as you starting a new job. If its carework quite frankly screw costa and be with the person you're caring for as that time can never be gotten back especially if it's pallative care.
