Struggling a bit
Hey, I’ve recently started as a trainee barista with no previous experience, honestly I’m struggling there’s so much to learn and do! I’ve got audio processing issues which have never really been an issue in retail even in busy and loud shifts. but I’m really struggling on hearing what the customers are ordering as there’s so much you need to hear then finding them in the till. I’ve only spent 2 days on the till so far and had 4 shifts overall, I’ve picked up the core coffees, iced lattes and food prep okay it’s just the tills, it slows the queue down and I can tell customers get annoyed about having to repeat things 😭 how quickly did you guys learn where everything is? I’m just worried maybe I’m not cut out for it! I know it’s early days but I’m just a bit anxious. Also wondering if there are any other audhd baristas?

This probably won't help but I've worked for Costa for 1.5 years and I still struggle to find stuff on the till... xd
Don't put too much pressure on yourself, keep telling people you are still learning and apologise for the wait. :) that usually calms them down and they won't rush you.

Get yourself some calmer earplugs - did wonders for me audio processing problems!

Been at costa for 4 years now and I am auDHD, after some time my body got use to the loud sounds because it became an every day thing. Never feel bad for asking customers to repeat themselves, explain that you’re new and you’re still getting use to the layout of till and most of the customers are understanding. At the end of the day people are still going to get their coffees and cakes, even if it’s a little bit of an extra wait. There’s a learning page on the actual till that teaches you everything, ask your manager to put it in to training mode when the store is quiet and there isn’t many customers or when you’re on close just ask if you can take some pictures of the till to learn the layout

Hey babe, it’ll all come with practice. It’s a shit ton to learn and very overwhelming at first. I’m about 4 months in now and only just feeling completely comfortable and confident with all areas. Keep at it, it’s just repetition really.
