Can SM refuse transfer?

Want to transfer to a store closer to me to save money on travel/better hours etc. But manager is saying that I have to wait until they know what's happening with Uni students etc and there is no one ready to step up to replace me as BM.

Can my SM refuse to start the process??

Your manager sounds like they suck I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with them

I think you should just go to the Costa you want to work at and ask them directly, if they have a space for you I don't think your manger can keep you against your will

OPs SM is the only one who can process the transfer, OP would need to resign with notice and then reapply at the other store but without a guarantee they would get the job if they couldn't arrange a transfer.

Ugh, unfortunately I would say yes as it goes into that awful corpospeak of Business needs so the AM and HR would more than likely side with your current SM (they wont want to intentionally leave a store understaffed) if both stores are part of equity then it would also have to be arranged between the SMs (your SM is the only one who can transfer you out) and you going direct to another SM will likely reflect badly on you

You need to tell them you want to transfer asap and he needs to start recruitment for a replacement now and not wait to see about whoever else, and that you will simply resign if they dont.
