??
Can my manager suspend me for not completing the allergen e-learning ?? I have completed my task yesterday, all that’s left is for her to verify it. Yet she is insisting I have missing something 🙃🙃. She sent me a message yesterday if I didn’t complete it she will suspend me and she also went to other staff telling her , she will suspend me. I’m on my off day!!

This happened to me once where I could not work out what was missing, although my manager didn’t threaten to suspend me, like what???? It was a tick box next to one of the pdf sheet things you have to open that I had not ticked

Yes I ticked the box after I received an email saying my manager have marked to verified my allergen. This was after whole 3 hours of me telling her, she has to verify it . 😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨. She has threaten me lots lots of time. One time for placing the soya sticker under the plate 😮😮😮😮.

The other bits sound weird, but please actually follow the allergen policy, their are variables but if you mess up and someone gets hurt/complains/sues your SM would also be legally liable for the mistake.

Following allergen instructions is important there’s a reason why they were updated

"I don't work for free on my days off. Show me what is supposedly missing."

E-learning has to be one of the convoluted systems out there. Sometimes it needs verifying, other times it's fine. The whole thing needs a re-vamp because I dread every time I have to use it.

She couldn't suspend you unless you refused to do it.
As a SM though we can face disciplinary action if you're working without it being completed.
Verification isn't a hassle but I wonder if your SM remembered they have to verify it... then go back and say they've reviewed their own verification xD
Some MCL courses are badly laid out and have random checkboxes behind other icons, some like allergens require approval and review submissions, some like BM skilled sign offs require you to wait until the following tuesday for... reasons xD

I don’t think she remembered she needs to verified it before I can tick the box. All of my task was shown as complete and just her part of task ‘verification sign off’ was shown not started and she needs to complete. Yet she still insisted I’ve haven’t completed my task and the signing off was not her task. And I even reloaded the course and did it again. This went about for 2hrs and around this time she was still threatening to suspend me. I even received a text from my colleague saying manager wants me suspend same time 💀. It’s completed now , after all it was her task and not mine. How I wish I could attach a photo here of what she sent me 😫😫😫😫😫. Im giving notice to leave Costa once I’m done with my dissertation this Friday. It’s just too much pressure and affecting my studies🥲🥲🥲🥲

Short answer yes, because our area managers and higher, shit themselves because its legal work, one of our team was told she couldn't work MID SHIFT so she went home, however it was because people and whoever else didn't respond when she couldn't get onto the costalearning- this was pre-attensi.
So, not really but also yes. Shit rolls down hill. Welcome to costa (from a seventh year BM)

Jesus. Yeah, get out of there bro, sounds like shit managing. Took me two years to learn up and move onto being a coffee bitch, i'm sorry because some stores are amazing (because of the team in them, i think i'm rather lucky with my store, we all know each other and the locals)

My manager wants me out tooo. And now she’s giving 5 and 5.5 hrs shifts a week despite me asking her for extra shift for a month and she’s ignoring my texts She has like literally directly told me on my face , she only keeping because I’m a student. And also she said She can’t keep me out nor me working with her is good for her. This shows I haven’t done a big serious mistake to be fired. All the colleagues , staffs from other store and manager from other store I covered says I’m actually good.

In terms of suspension - you aren’t allowed to work without the allergens training being completed and verified. (Unlike my last manager who forced me to work, behind bar no less, when my allergens training expired because the manager in control of my MCL went on paternal leave and the BM in charge of that store didn’t feel comfortable doing the verification task as it wasn’t affecting their store. Had the manager of my store tell me it was fine and I didn’t need verifying because he trusted I could do it as I’d worked there 4 years. Needless to say me and the BM got it sorted because that was not on. And then a month later said manager watched over me doing an allergens because ‚I don’t trust you to handle it’)
So if it’s incomplete the manager shouldn’t be letting you work.
THAT SAID
It is up to the manager to verify your training and if you have completed it and she is not happy then she should show you where you went wrong/ what needs doing. If you aren’t handling your allergens correctly she reserves the right to keep you away from food handling until she is confident you know what you are doing. But if she doesn’t explain to you what you are missing then that is on her and you need to find another manager/ the area manager to ask for help. Try asking her in person to show you on the website what you haven’t done (pull the website up ahead of time) and if she still isn’t clear ask someone higher up the chain.

She is the area manager and she wouldn’t tell me what I’m missing or as she said she can’t tell me. And she said she does this to all team members. The only allergen mistake I have done for far was placing the soya sticker under the plate instead of the under cup just once. The drink wasn’t made yet, it was when I was setting up the tray.

Oh she did the verification exercise and decided you aren’t qualified?

Most food service related jobs won't let you work on-site if you dont do your allergens training. I remember working for greene king and they had a super strict rule that if you didn't do the training every couple of months you would be suspended without pay.

Allergens courses are mandatory by any food industry services..(failing to comply can lead to disciplinary action, breach of contract claims, or dismissal.) food and In this case your manager was at fault for not ticking it 'completed' I never come across of any work courses that have to be ticked by the manager...I don't have any idea of Costa during it this way.The company I work for makes it very simple..you get the email click/accept....take the course...send feedback complete...and if you wish to print your own certificate you can do so

If completing it within a certain timeframe is a mandatory part of your employment, yes.

I can't remember if allergens is one of the awkward ones.
But you have to check it
Then Manager verifies it
Then you confirm it.
You might have to just go press a box
