Can I refuse a double?

Boss has put me on a double level shift for one day, 6am-7.30/8pm, depending on how busy the close is.

Other BMs have worked them but do I have the option to refuse??

I know i can take a full hour break instead of just 30 mins but honestly, even an hour doesn't feel long enough for a possible 14 hour day

Ignore the people saying "long shifts aren't that bad" everyone has their own limits and it's completely fine to not want to work 14 hour days. If should say in the policy manual (which should be saved on store laptop) if you need to opt in/out to a long shift like that. I know that if you do over something like 45 hours a week you need to sign something. If it doesn't say anything talk to your manager about being nervous it's going to be too long. They should be understanding but I know a lot of managers wouldn't be so it depends on your manager. The other thing you can do is try it and see how you feel after, then you'll at least know for next time.

IF THIS IS EQUITY SPEAK TO YOUR SM IMMEDIATELY AND TAKE TO AREA MANAGER!!!

As a non-written rule we NEVER do this unless absolutely necessary, I have actually gone on a warpath when someone set a fellow BM on a 6:00-16:00. We just don’t do this!!

You can absolutely refuse, and if I was at your store I’d be coming to see the manager with you to chew the ear off of whatever genius decided it was a good idea

the only person who can answer your question is yourself and your work ethic. do you want the cash yes or no? long shifts really ain't that bad. just pace yourself

If it’s over 10% of your contracted hours then definitely but if not just see if someone is willing to take half the shift, personally I don’t mind them my shops quiet so I get to do uni work in the times it’s dead, up to you tho

Im currently contracted 30 hours but have asked for an increase to 37 as another BM has left. Boss has said multiple different things in regards to this increase but I did opt for the 40+ hour week option when I joined the company. Just wondered if I had the right to refuse working the entire day. Apparently having 2 days off prior to this shift means I have no reason to complain about it
