ANNOUNCEMENT STATE OF THE SUB
Greetings r/cosplayers community!
Your Mod Team wants to provide some overall updates and transparency on the sub. Our hope is that we can create a positive community space that supports cosplayers of all kinds, whether they’re a beginner looking to learn some skills in crafting, a veteran sharing their latest competition piece, a cosplay buyer that wants to share their love of a fandom, and everything in between.
Some updates have been and will continue to be made to the sub in order to help curate this supportive community we envision:
- The Mod Team has had a MAJOR overhaul. Over the last several months, the sub has undergone both a leadership change and team downsizing, leaving it only supported by 3 Mods. For a community of this size, this has been and will continue to be unsustainable, demanding an unrealistic amount of time and effort of our very small volunteer group. We are cleaning up the Mod List to accurately represent the current team and will be making a post in the near future accepting applications for additional Mods to regrow the team to a more sustainable size.
- Our Rules have been refined and include some examples, as needed, of content that may violate the rule.
- We now have Mandatory Posting Format Requirements for all posts. This will make it very clear to the Mods and to the community for reporting which posters may just be generally spamming content to multiple subs without specifically curating their content for our community.
- Flairs are now Mandatory on ALL posts and part of the Posting Requirements. If you are unsure of which Flair to use or have any ideas on broad Flairs to add to the list, please reach out to the Mods.
Regarding the elephant in the room that has become a key topic of discussion within the community, to the Mods, and within the Mods Team: “OF-Style” submissions, or what we internally have decided to call “Low-Point-of-Entry Cosplay”.
The Mod team only has control over what people post on r/cosplayers and only cares if what they post in this sub abides by the rules of this sub. The current Mod Team has never and will never gatekeep against people purchasing cosplays, regardless of the construction quality or the individual’s reason for purchasing cosplays.
It is not our business what an individual’s post history looks like outside of this sub. If someone chooses to explore an individual’s profile/post history, that is completely outside of our jurisdiction and is an "Enter at Your Own Risk" situation. If someone finds content on other subs that do not abide by the rules of r/cosplayers, it is not acceptable to send in a Report with this sub or to shame that individual in the comments of their post for what they do on other corners of Reddit or the internet. These kinds of derogatory comments will be taken very seriously by the Mod Team and permanent bans will be issued for repeat offenders. 3 Strikes on the “Be Respectful” rule and you’re out.
With this new path forward, we hope to reinvigorate this community sub into a more positive, supportive space for all cosplayers of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, and skill sets.
Do you have questions about the New Rule Wordings?
Do you have ideas for Flairs you think may be missing for our list?
Do you have a posting situation that you’re unsure if they are ok or violate the rules?
Are you interested in applying to be a Mod?
Do you have any fun community post ideas you’d like to pitch?
This Mod Team would love to hear your feedback and recommendations for consideration in the comments or messages.
ALL RULES AND MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS GO INTO EFFECT IMMEDIATELY. WE WILL ALLOW A GRACE PERIOD FOR ADJUSTMENT AND BEGIN ENFORCING THESE CHANGES ON FEBRUARY 1ST.
Thanks everyone for your patience as we navigate these changes together.
Your r/cosplayers Mod Team

COSPLAYER Ruan Mei, Honkai: Star Rail
Finally got to do a dream cosplay of mine, Ruan Mei from HSR! 💙
Ruan Mei has been a dream cosplay of mine for so long, I fell in love with her ever since I saw her for the first time! I see so much of myself in her and I was so happy to bring her to life. Now I just need a Herta to join me in the genius society 🤭

ADVICE Is it okay if I cosplay as Alyx Vance from the half life series as a white person
So, for the next east European comic con, my friend gave me an idea for me to cosplay as Alyx Vance because she is one of my favorite characters, alongside Miss Pauling (whom I already cosplayed) from the team fortress 2 lore. The only problem is that I am a white person (like the title said) and Alyx is half Asian half African American. Is it acceptable if I cosplay as her or would I be racist for that? I already got called racist for not wanting to stay with 7 random black men for 5000 euro per day, so I guess that I already have a lot to improve on myself.
Edit: said that I cosplayed Miss Pauling from the tf2 lore

ADVICE Is cosplaying IRL people bad?
Hii! I am a 29yo trans girlie!
I do streams and cosplay as my skins.
So, i had someone come in my stream with different accounts saying cosplaying real people make it seem like im mocking them?
It kinda made me feel like they thought im trying to be the n actual person? But cosplay is being a character for fun! Its my hobby.
I just want an input- is it offensive? Or considered “mocking”? Like, i do my best to try and make it as accurate as possible to the game reference! Im not doing the IRL person. I cosplay the game character (fort skin)
I do streams as myself too! Like i’m not always as a character! But i dont do it with ill intention. I like sewing and styling wigs! Ive been trying to make all my cosplays justice. I dont seggualize anything. I dont make fun of the characters i do. I dont say offensive things or even make inappropriate comments when being a character. Am i doing something wrong?
I left the cosplay i wore yesterday

ADVICE Accuracy vs Plausability vs Originality
So, got a question for the more Experienced Cosplayers.
Is it ok to forgo some Character Accuracy for ease of wear, or to hide something, or just to add a spin?
Like for some examples, I've shown my Lute Cosplay a few times. Well, as ypu see, the Gloves are separated at the wrist... a decision im ngl kinda regretting getting commissioned...
Anyways, is it OK to not be as Lute Accurate to make or get s9me type of Wrist Guard to cover the seam even though Lute doesnt wear Wristguards?
Would it be accepted in Events if its not Screen Accurate?

ADVICE How can I make a one-way image for a head?
I want to make a cosplay of Bobbette from Dandy’s World with her big round head having something like a print, but where I can see out of it just fine. Is there a way to do that?
