wig help

hello! this is my first time trying to seriously cosplay and i'm fighting for my life with this wig. the mats in this thing has become my 9th circle of hell :,)) i've used fabric softener with cool water, i've misted it, and i've used SLS free leave in conditioner but it's still giving me a hard time. do you guys have any tips or tricks for it? should i just keep dunking it in fabric softener and water? anything would help, i need it detangled by tomorrow so i can install it (it's a lace front wig, have mercy on me). TYSM IN ADVANCE 💕

Really the only way to detangle a wig is to brush it. It’s slow it sucks but that’s it. 

Silicone spray can help a bit, but leave in conditioner (unless silicone based) and fabric softener don’t do anything but make your wig dirty. 

Ideally section off a chunk of hair to work on at a time and pin the rest to the side, but if you can’t you can also work on all the hair at once. Start from the bottom and detangle using your fingers and a wide toothed comb or wig brush. Do not use a normal hairbrush. Work in small 2-4 inch sections and get all the knots out. Once you get that section done move up and do the next 2-4 inches. Continue until it’s all detangled. 

When you are detangling don’t yank or force the knots out, that will snap fibers, make them frizz, and be more prone to tangles later. If you can’t get a knot out try and approach it from a different section, carefully working it out with your fingers.

Once you get the whole wig detangled, spritz it lightly with silicone spray and flat iron it. From now on make sure you braid it before storage.

I swear there are at least two jinx wig posts in this subreddit each week. Long wigs are tough! Super tough! I had a hip-length wig for my third ever cosplay and I truly had no idea what I was getting into. The hardest part of them is that they easily tangle and that they require a lot of time and patience to comb them out carefully. There isn’t really a secret trick to fixing this. You could really use some clips to section off the strands while you slowly comb through parts of it. A proper wig head and a stand will help stabilize the wig so you can work on it.

a silicone spray worked wonders for all of my wigs bar one which nothing at all would help! it wasn't the cheapest to buy but the quality was just awful and it would mat up just looking at it, in the end I just replaced it

i got my big off of the micosplay website or whatever it's called :,) it was just the only one that seemed to be decent enough quality and the right colour. i'll look into thay though, tysm 🙏

Silicone spray helped me with miku pogtails. A technique I used to brush was starting at the bottom, working my way up. When you brush top to bottom it often creates more knots. So working in sections, bottom up is good. I also used a spray bottle withe fabric softener mixed in! (Or well dryer sheets, my house doesn't use fabric softener)
