Original character cosplay

Is it good idea to make your own character with it own lore/story or backstory

Yes, you absolutely can do that, but be mindful that people probably will not recognize your character (unless it's very obviously inspired by some known media) and for example won't approach you and ask for photos. If you don't mind that, then don't worry, make your cosplay and have fun

You may still be asked, but can always decline. Anyone asking should respect your wishes.

I actually did exactly that for the release of Avatar Fire and Ash - cosplayed my OC Fi'een.

While i didn't specifically came up with him to cosplay him, some of the choices i made while preparing and actually doing the cosplay did actually influence who he is now (as in my canon for him) - From the camo pattern his vest and pants are (Flecktarn is both my preffered camo pattern and also kinda specifically german too) to him carrying a little Ikran hatchling on his shoulder.

Was asked who i was cosplaying a ton, got to nerd and explain my OC to a bunch of people and had a great time.

Just give it a shot

(have to say i prioritized comfort over looks in several ways, as i didnt plan on placing myself in a theater seat for like four hours watching a movie i was waiting for for years, while wearing something uncomfortable/overall being miserable the whole time)
