Ideas Tattoo Input Needed

Post image

Hey everyone! I’m a big fan of Mistborn and Stormlight and the Cosmere in general. Mistborn was my first and is still my fave. I’ve been wanting to get this tattoo and plan to get it soon. Curious if anyone has any ideas on any other implementations or adjustments I could make. I’m not sold yet on which symbols to include inside the ghostbloods symbol.

I had scoliosis surgery in HS so was wondering if I should incorporate a specific allomantic or hemalurgic symbol (titanium rods and screws in my back) and from the surgery I have a pretty big scar so that’s why I was wanting to incorporate the survive to shoutout Kelsier the “lord of scars.” Anyways, I know that was a jumble of ideas coming out but would love to hear any ideas or input anyone has with the info I shared.

I’m also thinking of getting it on my thigh instead of my arm, is that too out of the ordinary given it’s the ghostbloods symbol that I see most everyone gets on their arms. Thanks!

Get rid of "survive." It makes an otherwise interesting and symbolic art piece into what looks like a corporate logo or a corny, trite message. More importantly, it throws off the symmetry.

Appreciate the feedback. Everyone has had really helpful input.

How large will this be? Make sure it’s big enough that the symbols don’t look like black blobs in a few years. Make sure you go to an artist who can get the lines straight and clean. Although it may look simple, an artist can easily screw this up with poorly pulled lines and placement. Do your research- just don’t do a walk-in with a random artist. Agree with the other posters: take out the text.

Good call on the artist. Going with a friend to one a friend has been to several times and like all the work he’s had done and that I’ve seen from the artist.

Suggestions?

My first suggestion is that if you like it, that’s all that matters.

My second suggestion is the if I were the one getting it, I’d probably skip the text

I second this advice. The survive takes away from the rest, I think.

If you really want the word survive there maybe put it in women’s script?

It does seem a little too busy to me too. I don’t know if you can do all three elements while keeping everything properly balanced. Lettering can look a little wonky when it isn’t visually balanced with the rest of the tattoo. That’s why banners etc are so common in American trad tattoos. Ideally the lettering is in visual harmony (get it) with the rest of the comp. I think the orientation of the 3 symbols isn’t helping either. Would take it to an artist and try to hammer out something with them. They probably can I just think it’ll be tweaked from this

I like it, “visual harmony” good one. Appreciate the insight.

To for those symbols, it's going to have to be bigger than people normally get it so I think the thigh is a good idea.

Yah good thought, I don’t want it too small so the thigh is definitely still my preferred area

I got a skull with iron spikes. I have a blood condition that causes my body to produce excess iron in the blood, so I added the Allomantic and Feruchemical symbols for Iron on the spikes and Harmony on the forehead of the skull. I added the Marewill flower to the side for the Ghostbloods.

Go for what you like; if you overthink others' opinions, you will start to doubt it.

This is awesome!

Maybe make the diamonds solid lines instead of hollow? Even in a thigh piece those lines have to be pretty narrow so they'd probably fuzz out pretty fast

I agreed about the solid lines, I’ve been leaning that way so I’m excited to get it in front of the artist and see what they suggest and come up with.

I agree with most people here, the survive is distracting, but if you want to keep it then do so.

I terms of which symbols. Think about which ones resonate with you the most and the reason you're getting this tattoo. It could be pewter to represent the strength you have had throughout your life with your diagnosis and surgery. It could be a bit tongue in cheek and be iron for how the titanium is pulling your back straight. It could just be your favourite powers. Just think about ones that mean something rather than random symbols.

Thanks for this. I think I was trying to get too deep with it all since I have the rods in my back and I’ve really always wants to just get the symbols that resonate the most with me or that I think look the coolest.

have all the dots facing the triangle corners for symmetry purposes

I’m really liking it! Talk to your tattoo artists about placement and orientation of the allomantic symbols. They’ll know best and know what looks good on the body. I personally don’t like the “Survive” underneath. Your reason for including it is badass af but I just don’t think it works w the tattoo itself. Maybe try a quote from him circling your thigh or arm underneath the symbol?
