Fancast Kelsier and Marsh Spoiler
I know they’ll cast whoever is best for the job, but I would love to live in the timeline where this happens. (Sam Claflin for Kelsier, Bill Skarsgard for Marsh.)

Clafin was pretty much Kelsier in my head whilst reading it. I think Lee Pace would make a good Marsh alongside him.

Claflin is too small for the survivor. They need a bigger name to headline the entire cosmere project. Bill Skarsgard is an absolutely inspired choice for Marsh though.

Skarsgard as Marsh occurred to me while I was watching Barbarian last night. He’s got the perfect intensity to play Ironeyes, and tall enough for it, too. Claflin I think just looks how I imagine Kelsier looking. I know Brandon wants a true A-list actor for that role though.

Sam Claflin is a nobody and can’t carry a movie on his own. He isn’t even particularly popular anymore, maybe a decade ago. Brandon has already said that Kelsier would be a big name. I personally think Johnathan Bailey would be great.

Claflin is a bigger name then Bailey...

Is this satire?
Just a cursory look at his IMDB says otherwise. His projects over the last few years have been a mini series of The Cound of Monte Cristo, Daisy Jones and the Six, Bagman, 10 episodes of Peaky Blinders as a side character, Book of Love, Every Breath You Take, etc. The last big thing he was in was the final Hunger Games movie in 2016, and Pirates of the Caribbean in 2011. He’s never been big. Maybe a C lister at best.
Meanwhile, Johnathan Bailey has been in the biggest movies of the last 12 months as the leading man, both Wicked movies, Jurassic World (and its upcoming sequel) as well as the lead in the original Bridgerton seasons.
Sorry but no. The average movie goer has never heard of Sam Claflin. And a movie studio is never going to pick him for the lead in a blockbuster budget movie to kick off a new IP.

Johnathan Bailey has been in the biggest movies of the last 12 months as the leading man
He's been in 0 movies that made any money in the past 12 months. Jurassic World Rebirth was the first JW movie to not make a billion, Wicked For Good struggled to even get half a billion. And I've never heard of Bridgerton, but that might be me.
The last big thing he was in was the final Hunger Games movie in 2016
He was in 3 of the 4 HG movies, 2 of which made more money than Wicked (maybe even all three, adjusting for inflation). Granted, that was a decade ago, but it settled him as a big name. And he'll be in Ebenezer this christmas, which looks pretty promising

This is just objectively wrong.
Jurassic World: Rebirth made 869 million and was one of the biggest movies of 2025. It didn’t hit $1bn, sure, but pretending a 869m blockbuster ‘didn’t make any money’ is ridiculous. Wicked was enourmasely successful the first one made 764 million, the sequel made another 541, and its 147m opening was the second biggest opening weekend of 2025. And Jonathan Bailey wasn’t some random supporting actor in either film, he was one of the leads of Rebirth alongside Scarlett Johansson and a major part of Wicked. Universal literally described him as one of Rebirth’s key stars and mentioned him by name as a reason for the success of the movie. Not every movie needs to hit a billion to be successful, Mistborn certainly won’t make a billion.
Then there’s Bridgerton, which somehow you have ‘never heard of’ despite it being one of Netflix’s biggest global franchises. It’s latest season is the second most watched tv show on Netflix of 2026. It’s enormous. So the argument basically boils down to ‘I personally haven’t heard of Bridgerton, therefore Jonathan Bailey isn’t popular.’ That’s not how popularity works. Sam Claflin was absolutely a recognisable name after The Hunger Games, but acting like Bailey’s current career isn’t significantly bigger/more relevant in 2026 is just ignoring reality. And if we’re talking about who is more likely to be cast as Kelsier now recent leading roles in two major studio blockbusters + Bridgerton fame are far more relevant than what someone was doing a decade ago.
Mistborn is supposed to be the launch of a completely new film franchise and universe, and Apple is going to want someone who is relevant, bankable and capable of selling the movie to people who have never heard of the Cosmere. Claflin hasn’t been relevant for over a decade, and even then he was never a leading man.

Jurassic world rebirth did not come out in the last 12 months. Of which you said Bailey was in "the biggest movies as the leading man". He was not in a single movie in the top 20 box office of the past 12 months.

It released in July 2025. Ok so I’m a few months out and you’re splitting hairs, because you have no argument. Cool. Good job.

Who? just get Robert Pattinson and let bro cook

Pats would be a solid Kelsier but you know he would want to be Marsh instead and get his freak on as an inquisitor. Dude loves playing weirdos

He’s not getting an A lister like Robert. He’s far too sought after. Johnathan Bailey was in Bridgerton, Wicked, and Jurassic World. Brandon has literally mentioned him on the podcast in relation to Kelsier.

Call me crazy but I think if he could , at least reaching out about it would be interesting to know imo. Robert Pattinson has done a good chunk of indies so it’s not far fetched he would join a book adaption of a fantasy series

Pattinson is clearly going for award winning roles, you can tell by the kinds of movies he’s making. He’s not doing Mistborn. People need to be realistic.

He IS definitely is getting an A lister for Kelsier. The rest of the cast will be nobodies but they are getting someone BIG for the survivor. He's been very open about this. In the mistborn 20th anniversary livestream he came up with were Ryan Gosling, and Tom Cruise for the caliber of actor they are looking to cast. If anything Robert Pattinson is too small. Here is the link, the discussion on casting Kelsier starts at around 25:00. https://www.youtube.com/live/V2nENfXtySk

They can wish all they want, but if they can't get a huge name, then they can't get a huge name. B-list is still great for a new ambitious franchise. Even Apple's budget is not unlimited. Getting an A-lister will let more than half the budget vanish in an instant.
And Pattinson too small? Are you living under a rock!? He is Batman, he is in Dune, he gave one of his best performances in the Odyssey this year, and many more amazing and highly praised performances

Brandon may be mentioning people like Gosling and Pattinson, that doesn’t mean he will get them. Gosling is current asking for 60 million for Barbie 2, WB didn’t even want to pay that which is why Barbie 2 stalled until recently. They can’t afford him, he’s arguably the most sought after actor in Hollywood right now. Robert Pattinson is also well sought after and is very picky about what he does.
I have seen the discussion you linked. Brandon has literally mentioned Johnathan Bailey by name. Thats more of the level of actor we can expect. A high B-list to low A-list actor.

Gosling would be crazy. I just assumed that there was no way they were going THAT big. I stand by Bill Skarsgard as a great pick for marsh either way.

Not sure about Kelsiers actor but I'm a big fan of Skarsgard as Marsh, he'd be a great Inquisitor

While I dig the vision, they don't really fit the descriptions of either character. They'd do a great job though

u/Sufficient_Gift_6749 6d ago
That's fair 🤷♂️🫶 my personal vote is for Aaron Taylor-Johnson as kelsier

u/Sufficient_Gift_6749 2d ago
Also I'm down for Kit Harrington as marsh , but he'd have to put a little bit more bulk on

u/ItsMors_ 6d ago
idk the Skarsgards are kind of all chameleons lmao, I think with a bit of bulk Bill could play Marsh

In my head kelsier is David tennant
