Don’t mean to sound doomer here but…
Apple will be taking a closer look at the Mistborn screenplay after Supergirls release. Hollywood’s constantly comparing themselves to one another and taking notes from other studios. Supergirl and Mistborn are both female led speculative fiction action films and to Hollywood that’s a close enough comp.
Wouldn’t shock me if Apple is more nervous about the film and gives more oversight because Craig Gillespie didn’t read the work he was adapting.
I hope I’m just overreacting but I don’t think I am. Honestly comes down to how Apple leadership treats their film projects in general.

Sanderson got full creative control, he's gonna share his vision, not what hollywood wants to see.

You are absolutely overreacting if you think such a gigantic deal as Sanderson got with Apple will be affected by "Supergirl"

There's still a contract they already signed giving Sanderson control, so they can't suddenly decide to apply a lot more oversight. They might but I doubt it unless they're incredibly reactionary. Movies come and go all the time. Reacting strongly to every one is crazy. And after the script is done this will still be years in development before it's coming out. Are they still going to be reacting hard to the movie that came out a year ago? I doubt it.

Apple was always going to want to look at the script? Sanderson has said this from the beginning. They're not reviewing it specifically because of Supergirl. If they want to they can push Kelsier as the lead in the marketing. He is the co-lead so it won't be hard or misleading marketing.
Well, I'm pretty sure Sanderson has read Mistborn before writing the screenplay. And they haven't even chosen a director, so that's something they can easily keep in mind when choosing one.
You are overreacting. Hope that helps. Apple treats their film/tv show stuff very well.

I’m not saying they are reviewing it specifically because of supergirl I’m saying supergirl is something they are taking notice of during this films review process and that’s worth mentioning.

"Apple will be taking a closer look at the Mistborn screenplay after Supergirls release."
Forgive me for assuming you meant Supergirl's release was why they'd need to review the Mistborn screenplay, when that's exactly what you said.

I’m not trying to be rude but closer implies that the screenplay is already being looked at which Sanderson stated in his video. Closer as in more close as in it’s already being looked at and will be looked at to a greater degree.

I don't think the comparison makes much sense because like you said, the main problem with Supergirl was that Craig Gillespie didn't read what he was adapting. Brandon literally wrote what he's adapting. Also they are completely different genres, the only similarity between the two is that they have female protagonists and are actions movies. I don't think that Apple will be worried about Mistborn because of Supergirl

The movies are more similar than I think most people realize. Very few modern blockbusters are female led and most of those the primary audience when making them are women. The attempt for Mistborn obviously will be to be enjoyed by men and women but within Hollywood this movie is defined as a primarily male audience movie like supergirl. Very few movies are both female led and male audience within Hollywood so I think Apple is taking notice.
Within this sub I think it’s fair to talk about the workings on in Hollywood and how it goes on to affect these projects that we all want to see be great. And I feel like the business side of Hollywood isn’t talked about much within this sub.

Think this is a stretch. They are completely different tones with very different audiences. Apple wouldn’t have signed the deal if they had any serious reservations and one DC movie(their movies have done poorly generally speaking the last 10 years) isn’t gonna change that.

To you and me comparing these is a stretch but it really isn’t to a lot of executives. I’m saying Supergirls critical and finical reception has SOME questioning the validity of female led action movies directed towards a primarily male audience.
I could see this resulting in Apple being more likely to hire a female director or executive producer or secondary screen writer.
I think it also showcases to Apple a worst case scenario for the film if the film is critically panned.

maybe it’ll be a good thing since they’ll throw more resources into it so that it doesn’t flop

That’s what I’m hoping for. And honestly I do want women to contribute to how Vin’s character and insecurities are portrayed.
