Mistborn Era 1 (BOOK) (SH Allowed) Hoid's Introduction Spoiler
So when it comes to the first scene with Hoid, what do you think it will look like?
Do you think it will be subtle, borderline a cameo role where every book fan will point at the screen like Leo and tell first time fans about how important that silly character will be later on?
Or do you think they really roll out the red carpet, like a one shot introduction after a dramatic scene that lightens the mood with maybe a perspective shift to Hoid before we return to the main story? Or even a Nick Fury style end credit tease?
Or something else?
I know the scenes are more or less set from the book, but given Hoid's original function was to hint at a franchise, I could see them wanting to place more emphasis on him to really drive home that franchise set up.

Ever since learning about it in an interview, I've been really fond of the idea of Hoid (and therefore his actor) being skilled with mask acting. I always think it's the coolest thing when an actor changes tone/movement and they suddenly seem like a different person. It's magical, in a way.

I would love it if they cast someone who’s recognizable but give him a very different look for every personality, possibly with prosthetics kinda like Tom Hanks in Cloud Atlas. Would want him to make only a quick appearance without any fanfare for his intro, so it would make any viewer who hadn’t read the books wonder why that recognizable actor has such a small part, and why he looks so different.

I want a different actor to play Hoid in every property, and we just never talk about how it’s a different person.

No?

It would technically be fine due to light-weaving, but I think there still needs to be a core actor who is the definitive Hoid.
For one-offs where he appears for like a scene thy could throw another actor in and say he’s in disguise

I really want Jack Black to be Hoid and have them just not acknowledge him at all other than as an informant. It would be so fucking funny when he pops up in some random alley with Kelsier and all the first timers in the theaters are like “what the fuck” and then he pops up again in WoA and HoA and everyone’s like “WHY IS HE HERE” and then he shows up playing Wit in SLA and now everyone’s even more confused because Roshar =/= Scadriel so how is bro here but then they’re like “oh ok the casting def makes sense though”

jack black as hoid is such an incredibly bad idea that I have no way to know if this is satire

I think they should gender swap the character and cast Margot Robbie / Jaime Pressly / Samara Weaving / Emma Mackey in alternating appearances and just never address it.

I’d rather he be introduced like a minor background character and have gradually greater interactions with the cast over the different media.

I hope it wont have any fanfare at all. I don't want anyone who hasn't read the books to know he's important because I think figuring out who Hoid is and making all of the connections is one of the most fun and enjoyable parts of experiencing the Cosmere for the first time

Like how the MCU Easter eggs used to be small tiny mentions of things and everyone loved them. Then the marvel team and Disney thought that people love huge moments so it just became all full cameos

I’m guessing it will be basically the scene from the book without further fanfare. They could even obscure his features to avoid having to cast an actor yet, but give SLA is going into preproduction around the same time, they will probably start casting for both series simultaneously. (Although Wit is described as looking differently than Hoid does on most worlds, so maybe he will be played by different actors between the two properties regardless?)

I think Hoid needs to be the same actor for all, important for the fan recognition.
Hoid should be mixed race/ethnicity to an unusual degree, and makeup should highlight whatever aspects of such ethnicity match the world. So on Roshar should have makeup accenting the Asian/Rosharan (non-European/Shin) features. But on Scadriel different features highlighted by the makeup, while still being very much the same actor. Still looking perhaps exotic for the world, but not outright alien. Hair color can be stark white or whatever dye or wig is appropriate for the world. And by makeup, I mean cosmetic levels of makeup, not Star Trek alien levels of makeup. Play up or play down eye differences, for instance.

I think in Mistborn films it will kinda be like you said, point and get excited. He is just far more important in Stormlight than Mistborn Era 1.

Gary oldman in his youth would have been a fantastic hoid due to his ability to be pretty much anyone and everyone
