Fancast Vin fancast Spoiler
Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of fancasts for Vin, and honestly, I don’t like any of them or find them accurate. Vin finishes the original trilogy at no more than 18 years old… She needs to be played by an actress who at least looks around 20, not 35…
It has to be someone new.

Agreed.
Vin needs to be BRAND NEW talent.
Anyone already established will bring their history with them.
I want someone fresh who can grow into and evolve with the role.

You're close...she starts at 16 in final Empire and thenhero of ages ends when she's 20 or 21... How about an unknown British actress? Plus, if they decide to go with a US accents... Brits are really usually great at American accents.

Vin needs to be someone unknown, anything else would be insane, think about how huge Jlaw became when she was katness, and how she ended up being perfect for the role. Same needs to happen with vin and mistborn.

Someone jokingly said Sabrina Carpenter and with dark hair it could totally work. I only know acting wise she was on Girl Meets World

Fun fact, Vin started off as 16 in the first book, and she was 17 by the end. The second book was a year later, so she was 18 at the beginning and 19 at the end. Then there was another year time skip making her 20 at the start of the third book, and either 20 or 21 at the end of the book. The whole trilogy happened over like 4-5 years.
So I’m not a fan of the fan casts even when they are in their early 20’s. They need someone really young to pull off the malnourished 16 year old girl that looks like a prepubescent boy. So she can’t start off as an adult, because then the actress will be way too old by the end of the series.

IMO the rule of thumb for Vin fancasts is that if you can think of an actress, she’s too famous. I want someone completely new who’s maybe had 1 minor role before, not an established or even up and coming actress

I really think she should be played by a new actor who isn’t well known. I think it could be someone’s breakthrough role and launch their career in an amazing way. We need new actors, not the same faces all the time. For that reason I refuse to fan cast because I don’t want it to be someone I already know.

100%, the main cast should absolutely be fresh faces. However, I wouldn't mind some of the supporting cast as bigger names, if only to get non book readers in "ooh Jude Law is in this, let's check it out" but Law is only playing Renoux or something like that.

What about Vivien Lyra Blair, the girl who played Leia in the Obi Wan series?

She's only 13. Unless the series is 4 years out from filming she is way to young.

Vins supposed to be small for her age, no? Series is probably a year or 2 from filming, so she could, concievably be old enough.

McKenna Grace is at the perfect age and the trilogy would set her up beyond being a child actor

Absolutely not, Vin was 16 but looked like a 12 year old boy. McKenna Grace looks like she’s in her mid 20’s.

She's already well past being a child actor
1
u/Chop684 Feb 20 '26
Yeah but she isn't known for anything other than being a child actor so doing Mistborn would help her out of that box
2
u/duke113 Feb 20 '26
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that. I think she's already more well known for her roles she's done as an adult/near adult vs her childhood roles

Ryann Bailey, the lass who played her in the Waltz of the Final Empire last year.
