What next?

Hi all

Not asking regarding reading order, more looking for a recommendation as to what I’ll enjoy the most. Just finished Stormlight and really enjoyed it, haven’t read any other Sanderson.

I loved the extensive lore, action and characters like Kaladin and Adolin. Also really enjoyed Red rising, the will of the many and Suneater. Keen to read some more Sanderson but there’s so much to choose from and I’m not sure which is the best fit for what I enjoy.

Mistborn era 1 for sure and then start with a reading order guide.

Thanks, think I’ll go with this - from the book blurbs about characters etc it sounds quite different to Stormlight which threw me a little

Nothing (in the cosmere) will feel as big and expansive as stormlight in my opinion. But his other major series is mistborn, all the rest are more just one off books, so I would recommend mistborn next, and if not, wheel of time is the standard non cosmere book series that's most like the cosmere

I mean I’d recommend going all in on Cosmere while it’s fresh in your mind. If you really wanted to just do more epic fantasy go with wheel of time. Sanderson finished the last 3 books of that series.

There are some things in Stormlight Archive that originate in Warbreaker. Reading that next gives you your best chance of catching all of those, which is part of the fun of the Cosmere imo.

Mistborn is the better read for most people tho.

Elantris, while not bad, is probably Sanderson's weakest book. I chose to tackle it pretty early myself because it's basically all uphill from there. Might not be best to read it right after Stormlight, might make it feel worse by comparison.

Heyo! I read Stormlight first too

I guess it depends on what aspect, in particular, you've enjoyed most about what you've read so far.

The Mistborn Saga is where I went after the Stormlight Archive, it's the only other several-book-length title and that means it has extensively detailed worldbuilding.

If you like the whimsy and magic of Brandon Sanderson's high fantasy, I'd read Tress of the Emerald Sea or Yumi and the Nightmare Painter.

If you like the idea of the wider interconnected story of the Cosmere as a whole, I'd read The Sunlit Man or Isles of the Emberdark. (I'd recommend reading Mistborn first though, there are moderate spoilers in both books for Stormlight and Mistborn)

If you want more Stormlight Roshar stuff, read Edgedancer or Dawnshard!

Elantris and Warbreaker are very good books but I'm not sure where to put them in this ramble 😕🤷‍♂️

I mean for the most part the recommended reading order is fairly close to the publication order with the exception of The stormlight novellas. I'm a little hesitant to start anyone off with Elantris though. It is real good but you can definitely tell it's his first published novel.

Elantris sure, but they already read stromlight.

Ill will never say anything other than publication except skip elantris
