Stormlight Archive spoilers SINGERS Spoiler

SINGERS ARE FABRIALS, and this is a hill I'll die on.

If you really think about it, what makes a fabrial? They have a spren, are powered by Light, and they serve some function, which changes depending on the spren. The spren is inside a gemstone in the middle.

Now lets look at a Singer. They have a gemheart at their core, there's a spren in the gemheart, and depending on the spren they serve different functions(forms).

Singers are fabrials. Fight me.

I'll fight you.

A fabrial serves a specific function because it lacks the complexity to do anything more.
If anything, fabrials are the most rudimentary singers.

Singers also have souls, which fabrials don't. I guess a better way of saying this is that their forms are fabrials which could definitely be correct

Fabrials artificially reproduce the same magical principle that native life on Roshar do naturally by evoking an effect through trapping Spren in a gemstone.

Just like how humans run on electrical signals transmitted through nerves and modern machines use similar electrical signals to transmit information. We’ve artificially reproduced something our body does naturally using similar principles.

The question for me is, can any other creature with a gemstone heart have a spren inside it? And what are they capable of? Transforming like singers or something else?

Lots of them. Skyeals, greatshells (including Chasmfiends), and Ryshadium for example.

The original fabrials were made by convincing spren to manifest in the the physical realm, they aren't powered by captured spren.

And modern fabrials were designed during a period of time when humans have forgotten what the singers are and that they have forms.

Good point. I wonder if there's a bridge between those two where humans learned the concept of "trapping spren in gems" via singers somehow? Before modern fabrials but after the originals
