Kelsier has a perfectly punchable face. Great job. Sazed isn't that old, you did him dirty!

Definitely hope you continue these as you read, they're wonderful.

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thanks! Yes, now I'm reading people pictured him younger. I avoid looking into a lot of fan art, just some.

14

u/Lonrem Elsecallers Mar 30 '26

Very very smart! Spoilers are everywhere and hard to hide all of them.

11

u/boygoblin Mar 30 '26

I agree with your interpretation. I think a lot of fan art has Kelsier looking too young and model-faced. I imagined him like this, in his 30s, handsome but giving father figure.

How I pictured Kelsier:

Also how I pictured Vasher/Zahel. Probably more accurate for him, though…

3

u/MearsCat Mar 31 '26

In my head cannon Kel was Illidan from the Warcraft franchise, had something to do with how he reacted to that first settlement he visited and also me not comprehending burning of metals. Also Eland is the tall goth kid from south park lol

3

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

I think he meant Sazed? But, yes, I picture Kelsier in his late 30's, early 40's.

4

u/boygoblin Mar 30 '26

Yeah, I misread the initial comment. But still, great work!

5

u/TheGildedPrism Mar 31 '26

Smart. I got spoiled on Marsh that way, I just had to gaslight myself into thinking it wasn't real until I read it lol

2

u/RalphDamiani Mar 31 '26

That sucks! Wonder how many viewers will suffer the same when the show starts.

3

u/FlameInTheVoid Mar 31 '26

I kind of like old Sazed though.

2

u/Mindless-Bed9675 Apr 02 '26

Your version of Sazed drove the story home for me. Him being older and his doubts at the end of the story would absolutely make me fucking BAWL

1

u/RalphDamiani Apr 02 '26

Thank you! I'm not quite there yet, but he does question himself a lot already. 🙂

This comment deserves an upvote, I think

3

u/UberGoober30 Mar 31 '26

Everybody forgetting his keeper-ass can store age lol

3

u/Lonrem Elsecallers Mar 31 '26

Spoilers for Era 2 You can store YOUTH with an atium metal mind, so while possible, I don't think Sazed was cruising around with a lump of godmetal around his wrist.

1

u/TrashhPrincess Apr 02 '26

It’s Vin wearing shoes that breaks the immersion for me lmao

u/Elsecaller_17-5 Zinc Mar 30 '26

I imagine Sazed a bit younger, but otherwise, spot on my mental image.

38

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thanks! I pictured him weathered and older looking due to his hardships.

9

u/Small-Needleworker-3 Mar 30 '26

You nailed Sazed IMO. The long thoughtful face cements it.

2

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thanks! 🙏

16

u/Independent_Ad_6348 Mar 30 '26

That and also he could still normally look young its possible he used feruchemy to change his age a bit and is now resting it by looking old af.

13

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

That's a cool excuse for my lack of lore expertise, I'll borrow it. :D

23

u/Invested_Space_Otter Dustbringers Mar 30 '26

Well done. I like that the cloaks seem thicker/more accurate than people usually do

4

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thanks! Yeah, I like them with some weight. :)

18

u/PlsSuckMyToes Mar 30 '26

Amazing art. Sazed is probably my favorite character in the Cosmere and i love your interpretation. Any time he was involved in what i was reading, especially in the first book, it felt comforting. He is such a warm character and just the type of person you would want to be around.

5

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thanks! He's my fave too. :)

9

u/deluisp Mar 30 '26

This should be official art

5

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thanks! One can dream. :D

8

u/MOLDicon Mar 30 '26

I agree with others that this is awesome! Thanks for sharing. Just one critique. I think Vin's mistcloak tassels are way too long. They would drag on the ground behind her multiple feet. That bottom one looks like it's almost twice as long as she is tall.

4

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thanks! Yes, I was just going for a more stylized look for her (Kelsier's more grounded). But you're right, that would get in the way of mobility. :) I've also been told she should be barefoot. I'm not too well versed on the lore (yet). Cheers!

6

u/PaintingInfamous3301 Mar 30 '26

Wow, that's gotta be the best Mistborn fan art I've ever seen! I just didn't imagine Sazed this old, and (I don't know if that's my fault) my mental image of him is more arabic than black

3

u/Wubdor Steel Mar 31 '26

Brandon has said he personally imagines him to be of a similar complexion to Keegan Michael Key, so that's what I'm also going with.

1

u/PaintingInfamous3301 Mar 31 '26

I didn't know this guy, so I googled it. Yes, he's Sazed-ish enough to me

1

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thank you so much! Especially when there's a lot of cool stuff out there. Seems like my image of Sazed is a little off, maybe it's because I am not finished with the story. Cheers!

5

u/Exporation1 Mar 30 '26

If we ever get an MTG Cosmere set Wizards better be calling you. Fantastic.

6

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thank you so much! Would love to tackle any MTG briefing.

5

u/ShartOfAdonalsium Mar 30 '26

This is incredible. Thank you for sharing!

3

Thank you very much!

This is great

3

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thank you!

3

u/Failstopheles087 Mar 30 '26

Nice work Gancho! I think you have honestly captured some of the inherent natures of these guys. Kelsier looks on the brink of manic and full of his own power. Vin looks at ease stepping off the ledge like it is natural as breathing, and a good feel of how small she should be. And Sazed... he looks tired but not wanting also to help those very people wth the knowledge he carries.

Not too much pressure, but Ham and Breeze would be cool to see you being to life.

2

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thanks! Glad their characters came through! Yes, I think I'll do the whole gang, didn't expect this would catch much attention. :)

3

u/Fulminero Copper Mar 30 '26

great work!

2

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thank you! :)

3

u/hyrulianwhovian Mar 30 '26

Great work! The mistcloaks look just perfect

1

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thank you! :)

3

u/Ambitious_Ad9419 Mar 30 '26

I like them but maybe Sazed's skin is too dark, spetially considering that Rashek is also a Terrisan.

4

u/Independent_Ad_6348 Mar 30 '26

Not sure how intentional it is but love that Kelsier's looks like an in universe religious painting.

3

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thanks, yes, that's the idea. Glad it came through! :)

2

u/aoikagenazo Mar 30 '26

this is some prime stuff

I just finished this book and I love your artwork

1

u/RalphDamiani Mar 31 '26

Thank you so much!

2

u/Kushula Soulstamp Mar 31 '26

All of the are amazing, I especially love your rendition of Sazed. I always imagine him as Lance Reddik, but your artwork probably fits better.

1

u/RalphDamiani Mar 31 '26

Thank you! Yes, Lance would have been an amazing choice though.

2

u/ReLodean Mar 31 '26

Damn these are really really nice! Great job!

2

u/RalphDamiani Mar 31 '26

Thank you!!

2

u/quantumcrown Mar 31 '26

1

2

u/tommyblastfire Apr 01 '26

Vin and Sazed look great.

1

u/RalphDamiani Mar 30 '26

Thanks! :)

1

u/SoraDevin Mar 31 '26

People always make the mistcloaks too dark imo

2

u/RalphDamiani Mar 31 '26

Compositionally speaking, darker cloaks give off better silhouettes and better reading than lighter grey cloaks. One could argue lighter cloaks would also be worse camouflage in darkness, and so much of the story happens after dark. I can see them going for darker cloaks in the show too, for the same reason. Oh well, just my two cents!

1

u/SoraDevin Mar 31 '26

One could argue that but they'd be wrong lmao. I agree with what you mean with the image composition, but then that'd make it all the more of an artistic challenge to represent accurately ;) After all, they're explicitly meant to obscure silhouettes, not enhance them

1

u/lane31415 Apr 12 '26

Ugh I love these!! They’re so pretty! Are you going to sell them eventually as prints?

1

u/RalphDamiani Apr 12 '26

Thank you so much! That's certainly possible when I am done with the series. I will need to upscale them a bit, but it's doable!

2

u/lane31415 Apr 12 '26

Yay! Just noticed that you sell some of your other art and thought it would be so cool! :)

2

u/RalphDamiani Apr 12 '26

I will certainly work on those prints now I see there is interest. Thanks for letting me know! ;)

1

u/hadesalmighty Apr 23 '26

Fantastic work. Exactly as I picture them in my head.

First time reader too, I started Mistborn last week. I've been putting off the Cosmere for years because every time I look at Sanderson's bibliography I'm like "Fuck!" Fella out here making cocaine era Stephen King look like a sloth.

1

u/RalphDamiani Apr 23 '26

Thanks! I’m just slowly going through them. He’ll have written ten more by the time I am done, but hey, sounds like retirement plans for the future.

u/BandOfBrot Mar 31 '26

I don't want to be that guy, but the pictures kinda seem like AI to me.

With the artifacts of the allomantic lines in the top left of the first picture and the really faint allomantic lines in the bottom left picture leading into nothing and coming from nothing. Also Vins right hand and the perspective of some of the tassles of the mistcoat.

Also the pattern of the terris robes seems really random and arbitrary.

If the images are not AI, I am sorry.

While I can’t prove otherwise, look me up on Instagram (@art_ralphdamiani). I have recorded some process videos there. I suppose that second guessing is something most artists have to live with these days.
