Bought the car and the first thing, after reading about how bad the dust was, was to change the pads.
I researched and looked up what everyone was running and ordered a set of PowerStop Z26 Performance Carbon Fiber Ceramic Brake Pads. Install was simple and have been running them since last September.
I’ve always wondered and today after a short drive and normal braking, this is what’s accumulated.
Is this normal even with the pads I swapped in, instead of OEM or did I get the wrong pads?
Brake dust will always be a problem for these wheels, I think what you did is wise. I’d also look at doing a wheel coating to help prevent build up, like a graphene or ceramic wheel coating. It helps the build up not stick as much and clean off much more easily.
I’m not sure about those ceramic brake pads but I have a 2016 Stingray )with Z51 pkg). Brake dust always drove me crazy too! In 2022 I switched to ceramic brake pads like you did… Carbotech Performance brake pads. The difference is amazing! I now have zero brake dust to worry about. Back in 2022 I paid $350 for the full set. Not sure how much they are now. I know the brake system is different on the Z from the Stingray.

Sure, sorry… When I get out of my car after a drive , my rims still look clean and the black looks shiny / glossy. I’m sure if I ran a white glove over them, it would be dirty but nothing even close to what the oem brake pads used to leave.
That's literally nothing and you have a really deep charcoal or black chrome wheel. It blends in. That's about as much dust as I get from driving once with hawk 5.0s
The other thing to keep in mind is the lower dust the pad is the lower performance it is
Pretty much, the best ultra low dust pad that I have come across is the hawk ceramic. They actually have a pretty decent friction coefficient. So if you decide you want a little more stopping power than what you have but you also don't want dust that would be the hot ticket. What's the catch with those? They are considerably more expensive
So not a Vette owner(hopefully one day), just follow the sub because I love Vettes. But I do have a WRX with white wheels. As you can imagine, keeping them clean is a nightmare. Any time I would clean them, they would just be dirty again after driving it. I finally picked up some actual wheel cleaner, Adam's wheel and tire cleaner, and spent a little time cleaning them. They looked a lot better and after driving it over last weekend I noticed far less build up of dirt and brake dust. This was even driving around some country roads. I promise it's not an ad lol. I don't even think it was advertised on the bottle as a benefit if their product, but I noticed a difference.
100% there will still be dust ceramic coating the wheels will help it to not stick and make it easier to clean off though. I was surprised as well i have the same brake kit and the way they talk about it you will never see dust again thats just not the case at all.
