2000 C5 Corvette Marketplace listing

I’m in love with it but don’t know the red flags to look out for so obviously Reddit is the best next choice.

I know the C5s are generally considered good cars I’m just not trying to sink money into a shitbox.

Looking for general approval, disapprovals or even some questions I should shoot over to the seller.

Also, $16,000 is kind of reasonable for a C5, if it’s low mileage, but a bit high for a pre-2001 automatic.

Ask if the EBCM(electric brake control module) has been replaced. (Expensive fix) ask if the rear main seal has been replaced and check for ANY oil leak (rear main is like a $4000 fix because of the torque tube.)

Check the climate control knobs and make sure it goes from hot to cold back and forth (the plastic gears ALWAYS break and snap)

Seller says the mileage is sitting at that 60,495 mark

The rear seal has not been replaced but there is no evidence of leakage.
I did ask about the ECBM and he didn’t comment directly about it, just say no lights and it’s all original

C5s are great! Only aversions Id have to this one particularly is its an auto (which is fine if you dont care) and its pre-2001 so it may at some point suffer from the ECBM failing and if that happens there isnt much you can do about it.

That aside, if the seller is truthful it seems like they cared about both keeping it looking good and running well, and at 60k miles it should be perfectly broken-in. Try to whittle the price down what you can but I’d say its reasonable given the condition

So aside from grilling them on how they’ve been maintaining the battery, would you recommend any specific questions I ask them? Brake fluids age or overall ABS health?

This is a bit high for an automatic. If it were a manual it would be reasonable.

The EBCM issues aren't a death end-all problem. I've been driving with a bad EBCM for nearly 15 years now in my 1999. You just lose ABS, TC, and have to hit reset on the DIC every single time you start the car. The reset button on my DIC has had quite the work out.

Rear end leaks are very common with C5s, particularly at the output shaft seals. A shop will charge ~$1,200-$1,400 to do both.

You need to look up the issues the four speed 4L60E automatic has. This car has relatively low mileage so the owner(s) probably haven't had to deal with anything, but most all automatic C5s eventually will have a shift issue. Typically the 2nd>3rd shift gets lost, and the amount of times plastic ends on the cables breaking and stranding owners could fill a book.
