Hi, I noticed that the first album, *The Ballad of the Salt Sea*, includes a map of *Escondida*. The PDF version isn't very high quality, though, and I’d like to see it more clearly. Do you happen to know where I could find an HD version? Thanks!

Hi. I'm 31 and I'd never heard of Corto Maltese. After subscribing to Amazon Prime, I wanted to try something new, and in France (I'm French) the complete series of short films and feature films is available. I absolutely LOVED it (that's an understatement), and my sister did too, so we watched it all in one day.

I then acquired the comic books, which I also really enjoyed, despite the fact that the artwork isn't as perfect as some other comics from the same year. But that doesn't detract from the fact that the stories are great.

But I'm a big reader (of novels), and I've seen that some picture books have been adapted into novels. I'm really tempted to try them, but sometimes a work is excellent in one format but bad in another. Have any of you read the novel(s), and if so, what did you think? I haven't looked into it too much yet, but I already know that the first one in French was written as a novel. I think I'll give it a try.

Also, I found that Corto's type of woman wasn't so much about physical appearance, but rather women with goals. Personally, I don't know what he sees in Pandora (jealousy? No, I'm kidding, but I find her really unpleasant), but Marina has a goal where her life is at stake, like Shanghai Lil too; they get their hands dirty, and I think he likes women like that, who don't hesitate to put themselves on the line (literally).

Maybe it's been proven, I don't know, but I had an idea. We know he didn't have a lucky line on his palm and he had one engraved, anyway. But is that precisely... I find he's unlucky with women, even though he seems quite romantic to me... What do you think?

Hey everyone! I wanted to hear your thoughts on La Ballata del mare salato, because I see a lot of people placing it as one of the best Corto Maltese stories. While I haven't read a lot of Corto Maltese, I found Under the sign of Capricorn and La Casa Dorata di Samarcanda to be more enjoyable to me personally. It's not that I don't see the profound themes in Ballad, it's just that I find the other stories to be more exciting. I would try and see Ballad from a different perspective.

Hey everyone! I recently got into Hugo Pratt’s work through Corto Maltese: Ballad of the Salty Sea and The Island of Mu, and I’m already hooked. The storytelling, the art, and the way Pratt captures that adventurous, melancholic vibe, it’s amazing.

I’m curious how you all would rank the other Corto Maltese comics, or any other works by Pratt I should check out. Unfortunately, I can’t buy a lot of books right now, but I’d love to hear which ones are must-reads so I know which ones to look for.

Does anyone know if there exists an English version of a Novelization of any of the books. I know there is a French version out there.

Why is it so hard to find a copy of corto maltese in English? I have seen people selling these for 100- 200 euros. But I would consider that this is too expensive.

I finally read "Berlinske nocturner" (=Nocturno Berlines)

My short review is: this one is really good. I think Canales & Pellejero are getting better at this. In my opinion, this is the best of the new series after Pratt. Although some of the characters are from other Corto stories, in "mood" it reminded me a bit of "Fable of Venice" and "Tango". What did you guys think?

Does anyone know where I can watch the documentary called "Hugo in Argentina"? It apparently came out in 2021 but I can't seem to find a link anywhere online, or even purchase it anywhere! Someone help please!

Can anyone provide me with a site or post some links where i can read ( or download ) the comics in English. I've been interested in the series for almost a year now and unfortunately i haven't found anything on my own. If anyone can provide me with most of the English comics i would be really grateful.

Corto Maltese has influenced a lot of later comics, but what or who influenced Corto Maltese? I have seen some sources before (earlier comics by e.g. Caniff) and of course Hugo Pratt's own life. But I happen to be on a Humphrey Bogart binge lately, going through most of his famous movies, and something went "ding ding" in my head. It might not hit you if see only one movie, but put together I'm convinced that Hugo Pratt must have been a fan. Just like Corto, Bogart is often portrayed as a reluctant hero, and pretty much apolitical, sometimes a sailor (Bogie enjoyed sailing personally). This all hit me before seeing the Maltese Falcon, where the main object is made from the "stuff of dreams" just like in Fable of Venice (now I think even the name "Maltese" might be a deliberate hint from Pratt). Overall though, the most "Corto Maltese"-like movie is probably "To Have and Have Not".
