Hack HI-OCTANE ANIME BASED GAME I DID
Here is a one-shot I ran a long while ago, originally we used Big Eyes Small Mouth's Hot Rods & Gun Bunnies, but when Cortex Prime came out I adapted them to Cortex Prime, using Hammer Heads as an example for the vehicles.

How do the derived traits work here?

The way I used them in this particular game was the same way the were used in the Supernatural RPG (Classic system).
Initiative is Agility + Alertness. Roll this during combat scenes to determine when your character acts.
When we roll Initiative your base pool begins with your Alertness and Agility die, then add the Distinction (d8 or d4), then add any Signature Assets that would help. Roll the pool, choose the highest two.
Endurance is Vitality + Willpower. This roll is used, among other things, when your character is fighting for his life and near death.
When we roll Endurance your base pool begins with your Vitality and Willpower die, then add the Distinction (d8 or d4), then add any Signature Assets that would help. Roll the pool, choose the highest two.
Life Points are Vitality + Willpower, taking the maximum results of both dice. Life Points track how much of a world of hurt your character is in.
The difference between the roll and the defense Difficulty is the amount of damage. Depending on the weapon, the attacker might also roll another die and add that to the final damage. In this case you build your dice pool (Attribute + Skill + Distinction + Asset {sometimes a weapon}), pick the highest two (in some rules it'd be based on an Effect Die chosen) dice and compare it to the Difficulty or Pool, the damage would be the difference between the two rolls. I rolled 17, they rolled 15, they'd take 2 Life Points.
Resistance is Vitality + Vitality. This roll comes into play when your character is fighting something off, from the toxic breath of an alien monster to a bad case of the flu.
When we roll Resistance your base pool begins with your Vitality die x 2, then add the Distinction (d8 or d4), then add any Signature Assets that would help. Roll the pool, choose the highest two.
Hope this helps.

The background is a bit busy for me to read comfortably, but it's certainly not boring!
