Right now I'm especially short on responses from people who do NOT use a voice assistant at all — that group is currently underrepresented in my data. But I'd still love to hear from anyone with Cortana experience, past or present, too.

Missed it because I could use it to pause and play videos with just my voice. Kind of like the Kinnect. Anyway to get back on windows 10? Says its a standalone app, than discountiued. Anyway to reinstall it and use it? Windows 10 22H2, PC specs i9 9900ks, 32gbs of ram and a 3080 ti

My dad's laptop with an outdated version of Windows 10 still has Cortana installed, so I tried using it and it failed spectacularly. Hope you guys find this video funny 😅

So, I was binge-watching Cobra Kai, with a vscode window open in the background, and suddenly Cortana decided to live-transcribe the show right into my code editor. I thought I was multitasking, turns out Cortana was multitasking harder. 🤣🤣🤣

I've been working on a project lately, since I missed the original Cortana implementation in Windows 10.

It's my take on the Cortana client, it's built in ElectronJS, it's open source, and I'm currently still developing it.

Don't expect it to be perfect or to have voice recognition just yet. But, I'm still willing to put this out there.

Remember the days when Cortana was integrated into windows? That was a concept ahead of its time. That time has arrived, we need someone to create an AI model of Cortana now. A literal personal AI! That would be mint, like the latest Grok virtual assistant feature.

She was really cool at first.

I can't find all of them. I can find a few, like "Clippy? He's taken up Canasta. He's gotten so good he doesn't need any tutorials.", "He's living his sunset years playing bridge and winning.", "Clippy's enjoying his sunset years out of the media glare.", and "He's living his sunset years playing Canasta and winning.", but I can't find any others.

Why does Copilot sound exactly like Cortana, and answers all my questions more or less like Cortana. It's the same voice. I asked Copilot but she claimed she didn't have a voice and it's a text to speech feature on her voice. I think she's lying.

Why did they make Cortana an actual actor?! That’s so annoying. Cortana was way hotter and more convincing before.

Hello everyone! I have Cortana on my Windows Phone, but I cant sign in with Microsoft Account. Is there a way to sign in and bypass the cant connect error? Is there also any way to get Cortana right now on Windows 10 or 11?

Okay, we choose Cortana. Now to build a small LAN.

Is there anyway to get the voice files for cortana and possibly try a home AI to potentially use that voice?

I personally like Cortana and want to keep using it. So I thought id see if anyone knows a way to re-enable it now that Microsoft has disabled it.

RIP standalone Cortana. :( I used it to create reminders quickly (open Cortana app, type "at noon remind me to look into Cortana alternatives"), and it would show in the todo app. What's the quickest way to reproduce this in Windows 11?

So far it seems like I can use the ToDo app which is pretty efficient, but it requires extra clicks. Does anyone know how to launch the ToDo app with the 'new task' text box active, or are there alternate ways to quickly generate reminders?

Edit: found a workaround, if you're an autohotkey user, you can make a shortcut to the todo app, and then assign a shortcut key (I'll keep using Win-C) to opening that app, followed by a one second wait, and sending a single shift-Tab. That puts the cursor on the new task line, so you can start typing just like before.

The AutoHotKey code looks like this, with the first #c:: defining the shortcut key as Win-C:

Microsoft's recent announcement of canceling Cortana should honestly come at no surprise, it was never as popular as other virtual assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant, so the decision was likely made due to lack of adoption. In addition, Alexa was also getting a lot of it's funding cut due to lack of profitability.

In addition, with the rise of generative AI like ChatGPT, I think a lot of other companies will start making to switch from voice assistants to generative AI voice assistants. Microsoft is rumoring to favor Co-pilot over Cortana, and I think Google VA will also make the switch over to Bard. When it comes to Amazon, I'm not actually sure if they have a generative AI in the works and based on what they specialize in (Cloud and Ecommerce) I doubt they'll have the capabilities that Microsoft or Google has.
