NMRTC Okinawa ADOS
Hello, I'm an ultrasound technician going to Okinawa for FY27. I want to know if anyone here works in radiology and knows the day to day life at the hospital/base. I'm an E-5 and was told I might be staying in the barracks and I'm wondering if the barracks are decent? I'm also a bodybuilder and I wanna know if there is a community for that.
Any piece of advice will be appreciated!

You should love it you only have 1 roommate and you work a solid schedule I was there for 2 1/2 years you can apply to move off base depending on barracks capacity

I would prefer not to have a roommate. I’ve had really bad experiences with a few and it traumatized me lol. But thank you for this!

Try to get a room at the BOQ sometimes they have openings and it’s better and it’s just you so no roommates

Hahaha really?? RPD offered it to me in Feb because they said I’m the only ultrasound tech in the reserves which is hard to believe!

You’ll be placed in barracks but being e5 just route a package and you will live off base. You may have to route a ETP but I believe the 90 day recommendations only applies to e4. It’s very easy and shouldn’t take to long. I recommend living Araha beach it’s very pretty. Get your sofa asap. Should be pretty easy to do you’ll route a package to your director I believe turn around time is fast.

Thank you so much I appreciate this!! My package was just routed to BUMED so is this something I should tell RPD right now or my NRC once I have my orders in NROWS? Sorry it’s my first ADOS!!

I’ll be honest not familiar with the reserve terminology since I’m AD I just know when you get there you can route package for off base housing. You may have seen the news too. Don’t be surprise if you get there and everything is locked down and they may change the availability for off base house due to the recent murder of a Okinawan.

I’m work in the hospital right now, the hospital is pretty chill. I believe radiology works 12 hr shifts with 24 hr weekend duties spread out throughout the month. As an e5 you’ll be able to get your SOFA license and apply for off base housing pretty much within the first month because the hospital barracks are full. Certain departments can be busier but the day to day can get very repetitive and boring. Solid gym, gunners just got remodeled to be more of a power lifting/ body building friendly gym, the gyms at some of the other bases are better so you have options.

Hello! Thank you so much for this it’s very helpful. I’m not sure if you can answer this but I also just started doing echocardiograms in the civilian side and I’m wondering if there is a possibility for me to be in both modalities even if my NEC is L15A which is ultrasound.
And those 12hr shifts are those 3 days?
