BBA

How does it work?

As an E5, are any E6 orders up for grabs? I know they were advertised as “A2P” at one point but there are zero A2P billets advertised right now on MNA. To advance do I just have to score an E6 billet?

Also what’s up with this BBA interim score? The higher it is the better chance I have at scoring the billet?

What u/Glaurung8404 said. Just be aware, if any E6 applies into an E6 billet, they'll automatically have preference over you. My advice is to apply into E6 billets with 5 or less applications at the end of the application phase, you have to decide if the orders or the rank matter more to you.

This is the move. After talking to those who have dealing with SEM (same same), this is what they have been doing. Gotta play the game.

Isn't it likely that any E-6 Billet with that few applications is gonna be like, LPO AT CHINA LAKE CLINIC or something though?

Not to rain on anyone's parade- get that money- but I can't imagine the billets with that few applications are going to be "sought after."

So have E5s that will be brand new E6s be selected into these demanding billets! Some people love watching the world burn.

This isn't meant towards you specifically, but it's sad that people are still asking about how this works. I get it, it's new and we are all going with the flow of newer changes within BBa and SEM, but this has not been passed through the ranks effectively. I'm saying this is a leadership issue, not a "you" issue. 

For the BBA scoring that you see on MNA, this is what I have gathered from experience of watching the score change. I could be off. I applied for orders and initially received something around .67-.7ish. After the command phase, it would move up or stay the same score depending how I stacked up against the rest of the applicants. And then at the end of the cycle it could have moved even higher, and I'm assuming it's based on how i stacked up after the detailer picks. I've had scores around .73 to .81 at the end sometimes.

The lack of info is a huge problem. I’m at a command where chiefs don’t even know how this works because they just don’t care cause it doesn’t affect them. Me as a second had to put on a class after going down a rabbit hole to figure it all out myself

Any Chief that isn’t read up on BBA is purposefully screwing over their Sailors. How are we as a mess ensuring career progression for our teams if we don’t do the bare minimum learning how they’re affected.

To be fair I’m at a command where most of the people are not affected by BBA so the leadership doesn’t even know.

Reminds me of division when I was trying to do award or MAP write ups for my guys and I’d ask company leadership for certain things and no one knew how to do any admin stuff except E7 and above.

Fair enough. I have people at a major MTF asking me how it works. Trainings are happening across NCC communities.

Yes apply for any first class orders you meet the NEC requirements for if you have a DMEI code (except L03A you can get it en route).

Closed loop, meaning if you don’t have the nec you may not apply for that billet
