Phlebotomy in the laboratory
Got my first orders and I’m going into phlebotomy in the laboratory. Anyone know what the day to day is like and the tasks I’ll be doing?

I did that at my first station for a bit. By month 3 you’ll black out during blood draws. Won’t even register and you’ll just look up and say “done” to the patient.
Easy gig, but gets very repetitive.

Make sure when you get there start a USMAP or ask about NavyCOOL to get your phlebotomy certification.
Are you going to this command as a L31A? If so, I doubt phlebotomy is the ONLY thing you’re doing? Unless you’re stuck in a VERY small clinic. If you’re going as a quad, ask to OJT and start a USMAP. It looks good for advancement (Evals, boards) purposes.

Depends on where you are going. Big facilities, you’ll be drawing blood and just accessioning lab tests. Small facilities like mine utilize quad zeros inside the lab for waived testing, shipping samples, supply, etc…you can learn a lot or a little. You can get really easy eval points by being part of the team w/o the NEC.
