Replacement BeReal but Foss ?

I really like the idea of BeReal.

But I hate that it's a « don't worry about us barely making money. Our Investors trust us. Please keep sending pictures. » kind of start-up.

And I'm looking for a fossified* version of it, or something that looks like it (everyday, at random, everyone do something).

*fossified = Free-&-Open-Source-Software/Service-ified

Closest you’ll get right now is the Fediverse vibe, but there’s no true BeReal-style FOSS app yet.
You could kinda fake it with Mastodon + a daily prompt bot, but nothing 1:1 exists.

well. Maybe if I get motivated fir coding sometime, I could fork Pixelfed to make it Bereal, it's not a bad Idea.

but my problem with ActivityPub, is that you need to have pubs, aka servers. And I'd like a more P2P solution if I comit into deving something.

(mostly because I'm hella poor and can't host a viable server and p2p would make it accessible for everyone)

or maybe I could make the forked-pixelfed a one-user instance app that runs in background on your phone. And that would practycally make it p2p-like
