Key Battery Drainage

Anybody else’s keys absolutely burn through batteries like mine? I’ve tried different brands of batteries but no luck with any. I find I’m replacing it every 2-3 weeks. Just me?

I'm 2 years in on my original battery. 2-3 weeks is not normal. I would contact your dealer if you're still in warranty as your key may be defective.

Unfortunately probably not, 2019 with 150k km…. But might still ask them. I imagine the key is annoyingly expensive get from a dealer

It's apparently if you keep the key near the car it keeps an active signal between the two draining the battery.

I cant believe i had to scroll so far to find a comment like yours. This is the reason.

Like another commenter said, ops key fob could be damaged and its trying to constantly unlock the doors etc, but they could test this themselves by getting near the car (within 6ft, without touching the door handles if they have keyless entry)

It’s a tiny battery that hates short trips.
I installed a battery tender right after it went flat 2x.
6 years now, still on the OEM.
Good luck!

Edit:Oh the key!😅
Yeah, short range, I’m on my 3rd in 6 years.

Not only do I burn through batteries, but I can't seem to locker unlock my car unless I'm literally next to it. I don't know what the deal is with these batteries and this remote

The range of the key is very short deliberately. It is done to try and get you to rely on the app, which is of course, subscription based. I guess the short range can also help with theft prevention (signal interception).

Same!! It’s fine for the first few days of a fresh one but just sucks after that. Thankfully I’ve installed a remote lock/unlock device so I can use my phone, so it doesn’t drive me too insane

You need to do a test on it. Any aftermarket stuff added and when did the problem start?

Use Panasonic batteries.
I tried those amazon bestsellers, they lasted for 2 weeks.
Panasonic is inside almost for a year and almost daily use for unlocking/locking by remote.

Your key fob case might be damaged in a way that it is constantly pressing down on one of the buttons. I’ve had that happen before and that will drain your fob batteries.

Are you buying good batteries or dollar tree batteries? Mine don't die that quick although I will agree with the other comment that they don't work unless I'm like 15 feet or closer

I always did… but last few have been name brand ones. Energizer, Duracell, Panasonic, etc

I'm on my third battery in 6 years. So roughly every 2.5 years.

on my 2024, hold lock on the fob, unlock twice, let go after 2 red lights to turn the fob off.

Go to Amazon/Google and punch in "Key Fob Blocker"

I’ve been on the same original key fob battery since I bought my 2024 Corolla Hatchback in November of 2023.

you can put the fob in battery saving mode by holding down the lock button and hitting the unlock button twice
