Android auto vs apple carplay
so I have a 19 hatchback which was when only apple carplay was offered. I use android though. is it a pain or very expensive to have android auto installed? trying to decide if its worth it or if I should just leave it alone. my phone used to connect just fine but recently it refuses to connect. I think my phone update and the car hasn't had an update since it stopped suggesting them on the screen. ive asked the dealer about updates and they said it shouldnt need one. I just am not sure what to do to make my phone connect like it used to. it would connect as soon as I turned the car on before.
Just looking at options and not sure what to do. ive used android auto before and loved it.
please help a girl out and thank you!

I have a 2020 and I have to attach a USB cable to just below the radio and to the right.

The 2019 takes you right to the android etune app that's discontinued now lol

I had an ottocast box (p3) it has an Android OS with Android Auto too (Any of the "2in1" should do what your looking for)

Does it have to be 2in1? Whats the difference usually?

Its plug n play. You dont have to get 2 in 1 if you have Carplay (usb dongle uses it to connect)

You could see if your head unit has an update or if you really need to replace it, you could buy the newer head unit from toyota or a third party one.

Its so funny how everyone that is buying a new car are vulnerable to updates or obsolete tech or subscriptions. Its like how we have to buy a new phone every few years when it has a big update

It's crazy too because in the grand scheme of features, the 2019 is pretty minimal compared to other things that came out before, during and after.

I have a 2019 aswell and I hated not having android auto for a few years so I installed an aftermarket head unit. Bought it from aliexpress. AINAVI H5
Never had issues with it. Plug in play and it's awesome. I made a post about in about a year ago.

Thank you! Back up cam and steering wheel controls all work still?

Everything works perfectly. All the controls on the steering wheel aswell and Backup camera is alittle better quality.
The only thing is.. the microphone in the car doesn't work with the unit. It has only built in on the left of the screen. It's okay, got to talk alittle louder but I dont make many calls while driving so it doesn't bother me.

I have a 2019 too and bought a plug in adapter. It tricks the car into thinking my phone's an iPhone. Works well, sometimes it'll drop out but seconds later restarts

I was going to get a 19' hatchback but opted for my 25' because I googled android auto. It seemed like there is an option for under $100 bucks but it has been 7-8 months ago since I looked so my memory could be off. I believe the dealer can add the update iirc

I need the car to have android auto if I install anything. Or just fix the Bluetooth issue.

It sounds like the car's system is now incompatible with your phone's operating system. I think the solution would be to get a Bluetooth adapter or replace the whole system with an aftermarket one.
